I don't get the abbreviations

I stumbled upon this forum researching about pea butter and was caught totally off guard. I had to search for minutes trying to find out what DW meant. And I'm confused why there is an abbv for dear wife or darling son/daughter and why you wouldn't just say my son/daughter/kid and what's btnob ?
