I can't decide, in general, if this should be panic-inducing, or if it will sweep over like other reforms, and things will go on pretty much as normal.

Meh. I'm not super worried (yet) - I'm with VA and our division is hiring like crazy right now. I feel like this will probably blow over and have minimal impact on the regular folks.

My agency is large enough that we won't close down or anything. And I don't think we'll be letting people go. But I see the potential for a huge restructuring/reorganization.
So the plan is just to make each agency come up with it's own plan? Doesn't quite feel like those who want to deconstruct the administrative state are winning the fight.
I just hope this means they hire for the promotion I applied for. Next spring would be ideal.
I think so. I was talking to my semi-big boss yesterday and he was basically like, promotions all around!! then he backtracked and said "well I cant guarantee anything, who knows."
But the impression he gave was definitely that they will be proceeding with some hirings in certain areas (in our component at any rate.)
Also, I love how Mulvaney is like, "you cant just hire people willy-nilly."
I know the federal hiring process is weird and kind of random, but I don't think of it as "willy nilly." It can be really hard to claw your way into an organization/agency.

That is what stood out to me too. I was like does he understand the process? I mean I takes 4 million steps to even post a job.

In our situation, all employment practices basically track with federal practices and the hiring process is like 3-4x as long as it is in the corporate world of MH's industry. His job he has was one of the first he applied for and he had an offer (already had had two interviews for) for a job he applied for like 2-3m later before he even had his interview for the one he took (it was scheduled when he got the offer from the other one).
As far as I can tell pretty much everything is modeled after the federal practice, from benefits to hiring process and on.
I'm really hoping this means DH will get hired for his top pick. He's interviewed, they said they wanted to hire him on the spot, but the freeze prevented it from happening.
They're still in contact, so I've crossed every finger and sent out all the good vibes for it to happen. It would be so good for us.
