Whenever anyone posts about visiting Seattle I feel like I have nothing to contribute, even though I've lived here my whole life. I've never even heard of gold rush park.
We did a fun Pike Place Market ghost tour (www.seattleghost.com). It wasn't scary but had lots of fun facts and history, and you get to see the market after hours. I've also heard there's some good food tours during the day, I bet Trip Adviser would have some good recs - I'm not a foodie so I can't personally recommend one.
What is it about Bainbridge Island that interests you? I'm wondering if you could just take the ferry over and walk around the town a bit.
What days are you coming? I will check the Bainbridge review, our local paper, for tours for you. If you do come over here you need to go to Mora iced creamery. It's all homemade ice cream and they have some delicious flavors. moraicecream.com/ there is a lot you can do on Bainbridge without needing a car.

Thanks! I'll be in town July 29th - August 1. I'll have the 29th & morning of the 30th, and the 1st to my self.
Do any of you know if it is possible to take a ferry from downtown (where I'll be staying) to Friday harbor? There are some really cool kayak/whale watching tours there.
I don't think there are. I think they all go out of the San Juans and to get up there you have to get up to Everett and then to Whidbey Island and then out to Friday Harbor.

So I'm just visiting, but I second the Mora's creamery recommendation. Also, you must get some dark chocolate salted caramels at Fran's chocolates downtown. There is one in the Four Seasons downtown.
You can catch whale watching out of Anacortes which is easier to get to than Friday Harbor. Straight up I-5 to exit 226 (or 229) and about a half-hour west. It's where you can catch the ferry to Friday Harbor.
DUCK BOATS! Dammit, I love the Duck Boats. (www.ridetheducksofseattle.com) You can do the jet boat through Deception Pass. (www.deceptionpasstours.com) Instead of Bainbridge you can do Whidbey Island. Greenbank Farms, Langley (very artsy waterfront), old Coupeville waterfront (won't take long), and up Hwy 20 to Deception Pass, return via Anacortes. OR reverse it and start with a whale-watching tour from Anacortes (http://www.island-adventures.com) and wind your way down through Whidbey on your way back to Seattle. Unfortunately, you missed the tulips in Mt. Vernon; tulip month is April.

Seattle is safe. Explore the city as you wish. I've spent a ton of time here by myself, since DH travels. I've never felt threatened and I worked next to the shadiest bus stop downtown. The metro system is easy to use.
The Ducks are cheesy fun.
There will be a King Tut exhibit in town in May though at least the end of the summer if you're into those types of exhibits.
If you go to Bainbridge Island you should eat at Cafe NOLA. Someone on the old travel board recommended it to me and it was really good. It's within walking distance from the ferry.
