How wonderful for them! And how WONDERFUL for you to have the peace of mind that your DD and Kiki (and BIL lol) will have a fabulous life ahead of them.

This is amazing. I work in this business (trust and estates attorney) and I love it so much when good honest people come into fortune like this when they never expected it. I hope they are wise with it!
She already said that they are going to do the regular things like pay of their house and car and set up a trust for Kiki.
I'm such a one trick point because I immediately thought, "OMG, now they can have more babies!!!!!!!"
And I am cringing at the BIL/wife quitting their jobs. DH and I got a windfall a few years ago and were told the full payout would be sent. Turns out, the person was wrong and we have to wait until little BIL turns 30. It doesn't sound like it was anything like this, but it's a substantial sum of money and we were definitely making plans. If your son-in-law feels comfortable, it might be a good idea to warn them against making sudden changes until the money is in hand and they've consulted an advisor/attorney.
In any case, it sounds like your daughter and son-in-law have good heads on their shoulders. I'm sure they'll do great things with this!

This is amazing!
My friends grandparents had a lot of money. The grandparents lived very modestly and they knew there was a decent amount of cash but not the exact amount. They went to clean out the house and kept finding money hidden everywhere. At the end all the grandkids had their college fund set up and each kid (my friend and her siblings) got a huge chunk of it and each year get gifted more.
That is amazing and wonderful news. I hope you have a blast at Sephora. My kids are so amazingly more successful, already, than I was or will be and I'm just thrilled to watch it. They (and our DDIL and DSIL) are making wonderful and smart choices in their lives for their families and their work. I am just in awe and so excited for their futures so I completely get what you say about feeling like you won the lottery. I don't know why God blessed me with these 2 particular children but I really did win the lottery with them and also with DDIL and DSIL.

My mil does this. She tells us all the time that when she dies to go through every shoe and pocket in every piece of clothing she owns. And it's not like $20. She will put like $1000 in them. I don't get it but she said when the kids were young she used to want to always make sure she had a little bit of money somewhere in case the kids needed something. They have plenty of money now but she still does everything in cash. Fil just got her to use a cc at the gas pump.
Great news! And a very reasonable reaction on their part, Sephora shopping included!
Also, I actually quite like the thought of mostly skipping a generation to leave the majority of the money to the younger generation. Though it is of course very nice of the kids to give some "back" to mum.
