Dumb question. What's the difference? I currently use BM's Complexion Rescue and I like it ok but I'm thinking I might switch it up with the sale going on. Also, anyone have any good setting powder rec's?

I like Tarte loose finishing powder (colorless) or IT Cosmetics CC powder as a finishing powder over their CC cream. I do not like to shine and this makes a nice matte, but not cakey finish.
I used to like Jane Iredale mineral makeup powder compact, but it's a bit of a pain to find near me. I like something I can get at Ulta.
ETA: I don't really see a difference between the foundations and BB's or CC's I have used. I think that BB and CC are supposed to have more skincare ingredients, but I find them pretty identical to light to medium coverage foundation.

At this point, the main difference really is just marketing.
I mean, they each have their back stories and putative differences, but when it comes to trying out different ones at Sephora across different brands, the title BB cream vs foundation is meaningless. I've tried some brands where the foundation was heavier than BB (which was how it was supposed to be originally), but, for example, Tarte BB is as heavy as a medium coverage foundation.
That said, drugstore BBs tend to be sheerer than drugstore foundation.
My favorite setting powder is NYX blotting powder. I love it!
I've tried a lot of different powders (including the very popular MUFE translucent), but my fave so far is Laura Mercier's translucent powder. IT's a bit tinted which I like, and it is very finely milled. (MUFE's was also finely milled but I felt it left a white cast on my face).
Another one I'm looking at it Kat Von D's Lock It Powder.

I love Nyx blotting powder and like ELF's HD loose setting powder (supposed to be a dupe of MUFE's. As far as BB vs foundation goes, I've found that BB's are greasier (texture wise and as far as making my face feel greasy a few hours in) than foundation. I've tried Korean brands and American drugstore brands and I just don't like them because my face is already super oily. I guess it's the skincare ingredients in the BB that just don't jive with my skin.
