We have some of those Coolaroo shades in our backyard but they do not protect from rain. I'm tired of not having any real patio furniture out there. If you have a similarly unprotected area, what do you have and like?
We have a big front porch and have nice furniture out there but I'd like to be able to hang out more comfortably in the back while dd plays.
Having to get cushions in and out of storage is pretty unrealistic as it rains pretty frequently here and we are outside daily. I'd rather try to find something that can stand up to the elements. I'm in Houston so snow is not an issue, just rain/heat.
This doesn't answer your request for "nice" furniture, but I have a metal round patio table in my backyard where my kids play.
I keep plastic chairs (the kind that stack) around it. We flip them over when we go inside at the end of the day so seeds, bird poop, rain, etc doesn't get on the top.
Would an awning work? Or simply build a roof over your deck?
I wish and we may when we have to put a new roof on the house in a year or two but because of the slope of the roof and the position of the windows, there is no way to add a permanent cover relatively inexpensively. It is going to require some reworking of the roof angles and whatnot.

Do you have a price range? There's some really nice stuff out there, particularly in the synthetic resin (stuff that looks like wicker but isn't) category. I'd probably avoid the synthetic resins made with pvc, though, as it's not very UV stable. Get the stuff made of HDPE instead. You could also look into teak.
Cushions can withstand rain if you buy the good ones and take care of them, but I've sat on some that held water longer than expected and that was an unpleasant surprise, so I'd avoid furniture with cushions, personally.
Are you looking for chairs or a lounger or a dining set?
Price range is one of those "if there is a cheap option that will work for a few years, the cheap, but if it's nice enough to keep 10-15 years, then more expensive is fine" kind of things.
Chairs/lounger/bench, not dining set.
Metal is not a great option as it gets above 100 here, and will stay above 90 for months.
I've been thinking about 2 teak chairs and a bench, like they tend to have at resorts, where you can sit in them with or without cushions.
We have an ipe dining set by Jensen Leisure--definitely not cheap but it's held up well. We bought some cushions for the chairs but leave the benches without any. You don't need cushions. They also have other sets that aren't dining. You can oil it every year to stay brown or let it gray like teak. Here's a website with some options. We cover the table in the winter and move the chairs (THEY ARE HEAVY!) to the shed. The first year we left them out but it was hard to cover everything without leaving a giant snow/water collection spot on the table..
We have a conversation set from Home Depot - I think it was like $600 a few years ago (love seat and two rocking chairs + coffee table). It's under a pergola covered w/wisteria. The cushions get a little green and dirty outside but not bad and they dry out very quickly. The set has held up well, and it's a design where we could replace the cushions after a few years if need be (though I don't think we need to). We have a nicer set on our screened in porch that I wouldn't want fully exposed.
