1. Insanely tight traps. All the time. I cant seem to figure out an effective stretch. That crazy weird self massage thing i bought that wambam has doesnt quite help. The only thing that works for me is a good massage. Ive been trying to find someone who does rolfing around here, to no avail.
2. I get, what i call, itchy spots (its eczema). I never had it before i swam and it tends to get bad when i swim more frequently. My derm gave me an rx topical steroid and a moisturizer. They help, but when its bad it itches so badly it wakes me up at times. I tend to get it on the arches of my feet and my fingers. Fun times.
3. In december my hair person screwed up my highlights and used toner to fix it. Swimmer pretty much negates the tones right away. Sigh.
Today I swam with no goal or counting laps. It was nice! It's not like I am pushing myself lately anyway, but today I just went and swam for 35 minutes. It was really nice.
But guys--here is where I admit something:
At my pool there is the competition pool and then the regular "play" pool. I go early enough in the AM that the play pool is not being used, so I do laps there instead of in the competition pool because I am not confident enough. I feel like they all look at me from the competition pool like I SHOULD be in the comp pool, but they are all in there with their coach and doing drills, etc. It is too intimidating!
I swam 2 times for 30 minutes this week! That is going to be my goal for the next month. I'll worry about getting better after I get in a routine. DH gives me advice and it is all Charlie Brown "wahwahwah" to me. I don't care about swimming faster at this point. Hoping to get to an OWS too, but our schedule is insane this month with kids sports and end of the school year crap (I mean fun).

I did a speed set workout the other day that initially made me nervous when I saw the time intervals, and then I completely blew them apart.
Swimming has made my last round of highlights really brassy. I need to find a good shampoo that will tone them back down because the orange look isn't really doing it for me.
cinco, the only time the pools are available for me is in the mornings, and then the masters teams are swimming :/ In the "warm pool" where I swim, it is all the olds doing the aqua jogging, so I feel like a badass next to them, haha.
I had another post swim allergy attack on Tuesday. They are so annoying! I tried to blow my nose out really well after my swim, but I guess I didn't do it good enough. It started in the morning after I got home with 4 sneezes in a row and I knew it was going to be a bad day.
The rest of the day I was stuffy, sneezy and my sinus were clogged. It was awful. I was so grateful when soccer was cancelled so I didn't have to manage the kids with my stuffed up nose. The next day, I had slight sniffles but I was all better.
My set have been long lately, which is so hard for me. Yesterday I had a 1500. I broke it up into 5 300s so I only had to count to 6. I swam below 2:00/100 pace so I'm happy with that.
However, I am terrified of open water. Terr. I. Fied.

But next week DD can go to their nursery for 2 hours a day.
I'm thinking of doing the 0 to a mile program. But does anyone have any other ideas for a beginner swimming program?
Also how do you keep track of laps and time the laps? I have a Garmin 225 for running but not sure I can wear it swimming.

Your pool probably has a big clock. I just...count. If it's a high number, I use the tiles on the deck and put my workout card in one spot and a pull buoy or kickboard a certain number away and move it after each set or whatever.

So all my swimmy friends are at SCAR right now and, while I have no interest in swimming SCAR, I'm having terrible jealousy. Also, they did A today and OMG, only 5 people finished. Ooof, that is one cranky lake. (www.scarswim.com)

mrshandy, I have the exact same problem. I have to take at least one benedryl but sometimes 2 after I swim. I've talked to my allergist about it and he's been extremely unhelpful (he's also an annoying flirt and I need to fire him and find someone else but that's another story). Anyhoo, I think I've determined it's to do with something called chloramines? Anyway. Good luck. It sucks.

Nope, I get it too. I think it's because chlorine is an irritant and I get a lot in my sinuses. Have you tried a nose clip? I've got friends who swear by them.

emilyj i went to sally beauty a few weeks ago and the recommended a purple shampoo/deep conditioner when i explained to them about how my colorist fucked up my highlights + swimming. I just bought the deep conditioner. It works well and was maybe $6.
