Your winning me over with your talk of relaxation and stress relief. Plus Amazon had a screaming deal on a diffuser last week and you know me and my sales. Some questions.
1. Is there a difference in quality? Like, should I be buying from Whole Foods or from some kind of EO guru vs. on Amazon or does it make no difference?
2. What do you use for what?
3. If some candles trigger my migraines, I should probably be extra careful here too, right? I've used peppermint oil before when I've had a migraine but that's the extent of my experience here. I'm guessing I'd be safe with citrus scents (based on experience).
I only dabble in oils so I'll just answer about what I use I got a few blends from a supplier my H works with. I have one that's mostly lavender based for relaxation and one that's kind of minty for sinus issues. Honestly, I don't think they "help" other than being relaxing because they smell good! I also use lavender in the bath sometimes. I use lemon when I clean the sink with baking soda and vinegar to make it smell nice.
If I had the time/money I would make more things with the oils (roll ons, body scrubs, bath bombs, etc). There are a million ideas on Pinterest that I want to try!
1. I think there is a difference in quality. A lot of the cheaper brands use fillers and additives, which is why they're so much cheaper.
2. I use all sorts of oils for all sorts of different things. Haha. Sleep, immunity boosts, relaxation, motivation, pain relief, cleaners, hand soap, pest repellent...
3. I know that a lot of people use EOs to help treat migraines. That might be a good place for you to start, so you have something you can use if you do have a reaction to any of the other oils you try. I'm really sensitive to scents (I grew up in a scent free house) and I haven't had any issues with any of the oils I've used.
I like them for better scents that don't trigger headaches as often as candles. Some do still bother me. I've never had any medicinal success with them (other than smelling peppermint to quell nausea), but for cleaning and such I like them a lot. I prefer the Native American Oils Brand. The quality seems better than some of the MLM brands, I like their sustainability practices, and they just smell the best to me. I also have some young living and some from whole foods. I hate the hassle of YL so I stopped ordering those. I do buy a cheap brand of lavender for my laundry because dirty clothes don't need quality.
My favorite to diffuse in my bedroom is blend of Melissa (it's a European lemongrass I think?) And I add a drop of lavender if it's bedtime. In the kitchen I like citrus blends. For cleaning or babies' rooms I like young living purification or a similar blend.
I am so brand new back in them. (I dabbled years ago) But I signed up with YL for various reasons...after doing a ton of research. We're using diffusers for stress relief, made roller balls for uplifting mood & immune support, and we have the YL Purification amaranth mentioned on cotton balls in the bases of the trash cans. I tend to get overwhelmed easy...so we're taking it one step at a time once I research a particular oil.
One quick note on scented candles: they all (even if they vehemently say that don't) have a small trace of Formaldehyde. We threw out all of our scented candles and replaced them with diffusers.
I think there are SO many uses for them...there are a ton.

I prefer oils over scented candles because they're less irritating to my nose. I had a coworker who was VERY sensitive to scents-- she broke out in hives and had trouble breathing if a patient was was wearing strong perfume-- and she uses essential oils.

Thanks, this is so helpful. So when you guys use them for cleaning @katepsade amaranth, what are you doing with them?
That's cool about the lemon for your sink estrellita! I was so excited to find out we had citrus trees in our new yard because I love putting lemons down the disposal. Ha!
pooh8402 - Thanks for the tip! I'm going to order that one if I can find it! Great deals are my jam!
I don't use mine for cleaning, just fyi. The research I've done is that they're only effective when used undiluted, and ain't no one gonna do that. I'm going to stick with my hydrogen peroxide- and bleach- based products.
What I do use them for: - make my house smell good - peppermint and lavender on my temples and nape of neck for headaches - a couple drops of peppermint on my lower abdomen, about every other day, for regularity (this WORKS! Don't use during pregnancy) - YL Thieves when someone is sick - various stronger scents (eucalyptus, peppermint, wintergreen, etc) for allergies/sinus issues, to clear my sinuses - rolled on YL Gentle Baby when E was a fussy newborn - dot.erra Deep Blue (in a roller) for muscle aches. It's mostly wintergreen.

Any suggestions for anxiety? My MIL is just getting into using oils, and she said something about a "liquid xanax". Any idea what this would consist of?

YL has a Liquid Xanax recipe that a lot of people swear by. Lavender, Stress Away, Patchouli, Valor, and Vetiver. I can send you the full recipe if you want to share it with her.

Do you know if this deal is over? I can't find it
Apparently it's over, even though only 1/3 were claimed.

Maybe see if you can split with someone. These oils can be a little pricey. The valor especially since it is limited stock and stress away.

rockinrobyn how do you made the lotions? E has a lot of itchy patches and we use Aquaphor (the Vaseline like kind) and Eucerin lotion other days but it's persistent!
