ewall- I'm glad he liked it. I love banana bread and it's easy to make.
DH has done that a few times with different things. Most recently it's been cereal. He eats it all the time here at his parents, we've only lived together for 8 years and I hate cereal so I never buy it. I would have bought it for him.
We will hopefully find out from our insurance company if we are going to have to fight them to get the money to cover the repairs to our house.
We are also getting turf delivered today so that we can have the front of the house looking great.

I haven't made banana bread in forever. So good! My problem is I can't stop myself from eating it, and I don't need to eat that much, so I just don't make it
I'm reading a parenting book I found at my parents' and it's pissing me off. In the midst of otherwise good ideas and guidance he throws in complete madness and control. It's a Christian book and he proposes all misbehavior is sin (okay, that's fine) BUT, he attributes things to be wrong that I believe are not sin/rebellion/misbehavior at all. One example is if a baby or toddler arches their back or wiggles to get out of your arms. He claims that is rebelling against your authority and they should never try to get down, or else be disciplined. You, as the parent, must exercise full control at all times and only you can determine they may get down. Huh??? Babies can't talk. Wtf? I seriously can't even form a coherent retort to such absurdity. That's just one example. Don't read parenting books from the 80's conservative movement
ewall glad you (he) liked the recipe. I'm making a batch tonight for us. It never lasts long at our house either.
Yesterday, I told my mom that H and I are pulling the goalie next week, and I'm pretty sure it was the best Mother's Day gift I could have given her. Her reaction was even better than I expected it to be. I don't think I've ever seen her that excited about anything before.
I need to make banana bread too. We all love it in our house.
amaranth, I'm pretty sure my ILs used those books to raise DH and his brother. Fortunately, they've relaxed since then and DH doesn't agree with that style of parenting at all.

My dad has notes in this books with kids' names, to remember which parts to use. They clearly bought into it all, and it made me resent my parents for years.

amaranth That is horrible parenting advice! I feel like that must have been a trend, not just in Christian circles. My dad very much parented as an authority figure, though maybe not quite to that extreme. So crazy!
We're supposed to be getting a big storm today.. hope it's not too bad!

Hmmm... I have bananas that are starting to brown. I was going to freeze them for smoothies but maybe I'll make some banana bread.
I was cleaning my vanity and found a deep purple lipstick I got from a boxy charm box. I'm rocking it right now while doing housework. H doesn't like when I wear makeup that isn't "natural" looking so I need a ladies night so I can wear this out!
MIL picked up G and took her to music class this morning. C was awesome playing as I cleaned the living room. I have so much more to do but man it feels so much better in this house already! I moved the couches and vacuumed underneath and it was so terrible under there. So glad to get something checked off my cleaning list.
Today is my mom's birthday. I'm taking the girls to meet my mom and grandma for dinner. Excited to celebrate with delicious food and a margarita!
I am exhausted today after a busy Mother's Day. Sometimes it's exhausting having all your family local. We've watched a lot of tv so far today, but I think DS needed a lazy morning too.
I went to see Beauty and the Beast Saturday by myself and it was really good. I'm glad I went by myself because H wouldn't have like it.
We have gotten all the quotes back. To get the nicer/better quality windows everyone is saying $20k+. We can do middle of the road for about $17k. I think the next step is to see the product and make a decision (although DH really doesn't want to spend more than $17k, I don't either because it will take away from our kitchen...but that isn't being done for a good 5 more years and we do need to replace these windows).
luv2rn4fun if you want to talk windows, I'm your girl. I've been researching for years. I've also got recent quotes (albeit from a LCOL area) if you want to compare notes. On the low end, $9k for basic vinyl and $22k for aluminum clad wood.
Thank you! We have 25 windows and 3 sliders (one being converted to French doors). Mostly vinyl quotes...higher end is $20k+ and mid end is $17k. We could do low end for $15kish. The $62-80k quote was by renewal by Andersen. All the vinyl quotes are Simonton or milgard equivlaent (anlin, Del Mar Vs mar vista). Crazy to spend this much for windows when we want to do our kitchen for $30k (although with the new thoughts it will likely be closer to $50k).
It's definitely gotten more tiring trying to see everyone after we had DS. Most of the time I really like living close, but occasionally I wish we could do our own thing.

We only live close to my dad and step mom now and it can still be very busy. So glad ILs don't live nearby because it would be really hard balancing everyone (and they are super needy and would be all up in our space, especially mine being home with the boys all the time...no thank you).

ewall- so we have it narrowed down and will physically see the windows Sat morning. One is middle of the road vinyl for $17,500. The top of the line (which includes noise reduction, easier to clean, nicer screens, better warranty) is $20k. What would you do considering we only wanted to spend $15k, so already going above our budget? We also want to do a kitchen and backyard remodel (among other things...the list is LONG) and might need to do a re pipe of the whole house ($10k).

Not ewall, but are you planning this as your forever home? If so, I'd spend a few grand extra for longevity, ease of use, and better warranty. To my 5k is minimal in the grand scheme of replacing all the windows again. If you plan to sell around the time the 17k windows are presumed to expire, I would also use that as a reason to buy higher because buyers are terrified of window costs.
If the answer to those is no, I'd save the money. You'll certainly enjoy the money invested in to your kitchen and yard more.
luv2rn4fun Out of all the renovations we did at this house... I'm pretty sure new windows are my favorite thing we did. I would spend a little more if you like them better in person. They make such a huge difference for noise reduction for us and it really is a one time investment.

Not our forever home but hopefully our home until the boys are in college (so 18 more years or so). I am not sure how long the warranty is on both windows so need to ask DH (he talked to the sales guy yesterday). I told DH that we might need to just suck it up and do the $20k windows now for resale value...but then again, 20 years from now these windows will likely be obsolete too.

Good to know because in my head I just can't fathom spending this much on windows when we want to do the kitchen for $30k (originally, now it's probably closer to $50k because we want to tear down walls and put in a couple windows, which will give a sunset view in the kitchen (we have a sunset view off the balcony in our master).
