My day was going great. Work was somewhat manageable today.
But I'm dealing with trying to get insurance. We have one place that will give us coverage. The broker is going out of town next week, so she is in a rush to get things done before she goes. We are too. I'd like to close next week.
So I've noticed in emails she has been addressing me as Carol. I let it slide.
Today she sends over paperwork that we need to sign and I start to print it and notice Carol, Carol, Carol everywhere that should be Carolyn, Carolyn, Carolyn. I called her up immediately and said, "You have my name wrong." She said she couldn't send in a new application, yadee, yadee, and they would have to do something else to fix it.
I mentioned that I didn't feel very confident in her abilities and was fearful something would go wrong because of this. We have enough stacked against us on the insurance front that I'd hate for a misspelled name to screw this deal up.
Low and behold, the important document she had the correct name on, but it was two others that had Carol. She told me to write over what she typed, and make sure it's correct. I asked her to fix it herself and send it back to me. She seemed annoyed, but get over it.
So.... she sends back the documents to me in an email as follows:
Hi Carol:
See attached Request and Waiver with the name correction.
Thank you again., Betty
I about lost it. I mean the names are correct in the documents, but the lady can't fucking get my name right to save her life. I let her know in an email I probably shouldn't have sent but did. You know, a "Thanks for the updated documents, but you still are calling me Carol. My name is Carolyn. Please get it right."

I agree - well deserved email. Not quite the same, but my husband has a common name that is spelled in an uncommon way. It gets written wrong in documents ALL the time, no matter how many times we tell people, and we're forever having to get documents/prescriptions/etc. updated.

On my very first day of kindergarten my name was spelled incorrectly on my desk (another common named spelled slightly different than most). I got upset and when my teacher asked my mom what was wrong, she told her. Her response was "Everyone deserves to have their name spelled correctly." and fixed it immediately. I took those words to heart, and more people should. You did the right thing.

Okay, Betty is going bye-bye.
Not because she can't get my name right, but because my H says he doesn't trust her as far as he could throw her. She essentially wants us to lie on the insurance application in order to get the policy written saying we know of no roof damage. H is like, hell to the no.
So we have one final shot at insurance. I will hopefully know something in the next few hours, so I can enjoy my weekend and sleep through the night.
Good that you said goodbye to Betty, she just sounds bad. Where are you looking to get your insurance now? I've got a guy if you're interested. H's fraternity brother is an independent agent. He's in Lakeland but he does all my stuff and a couple of my friends too.

Yeah I think getting rid of Betty was the right way to go. If she can't get your name right after numerous corrections, she's obviously not competent enough to do the job, but then asking you to lie about the roof just sounds shady and like something that could bite you in the ass. Good luck getting someone else quickly. Insurance is enough of a nightmare without all that.

Do you have an insurance agent? We use Professional Insurance in Tampa and it's just nice to have someone taking care of things. We also had a hard time getting insurance but they got it for us and they deal with the companies and the applications, etc. And they spell my name right on everything...
