Self care has been on the back burner here. I got a couple of decent walks in the park which led to improved sleep. We did a weekend away last week so DS could see his favorite steam locomotive in action. We got to stay with an old dear friend who moved back to Roanoke to care for her elderly parents. It was great to see her.
DS is doing OK, but I'm really busy with my "special needs" parents. Last week mother had 4 appointments; 2 where I was required. This week she has a back procedure tomorrow. Next week she has 3 appointments; 2 I have to attend. Next month dad sees a new psychiatrist, checks in with his urologist for a shot to keep his prostate cancer contained and checks in with his new pulmonologist. Mom's got knee replacement surgery, her gastro guy and derm in July.
DH and I need to plan something for our anniversary. I'd like a weekend in Boston- I have to pick up some things from my aunt's house and DH is always happy to eat clams and poke around Cambridge reliving his school days. Not sure where I can fit it in.
auntie, that is a lot on your plate. Hope you are able to fit in some self care and an anniversary getaway!
What did you do this past week to take care of yourself? Not enough, honestly. Things have been a little intense the past few weeks. I did spend some time reading a good book to unwind. We did a beach trip on Friday, which was great, too, and involved some times of just peacefully gazing out at the ocean.
Any self-care plans this week? Yes. Lots going on this week but I lined up a sitter for tomorrow morning and I'm at least going to treat myself to a little Starbucks and relaxation before cranking out all my errands.
Challenge: Spend some one on one time doing something special with your LO(s) or at least make plans to do so soon if this week doesn't work for it. I actually did this with Oliver yesterday. Took him to a birthday party and did some shopping afterward and ended up actually having some great mother-son bonding time. He is SUCH a Daddy's boy, while Leo is generally more drawn to me, it was nice.
This past week I worked on an earlier bedtime and didn't have much success. Just too much going on, I guess, and DS wasn't sleeping well so I didn't get to sleep well.
This week: I'm still working on sleep, and it should go better since DS is at his dad's. I'm also trying to excavate my office space, because it's just beyond acceptable right now.
Challenge: DS comes back Friday afternoon. I've been downloading Myplate graphics so that we can talk about nutrition. I think it will be a good tool for him and he'll find it interesting. Will probably head up to our favorite mini train park on the weekend.
