Today is my first official day off from work. I feel like I have a really busy week even though I'm not working. I have something scheduled everyday this week though.
Went to meet a friend on Saturday and she gave us their newborn carseat so we have our carseat now! It's good until October 2018 and then we'll switch to our other carseat.
DH finally got rid of the mattress and box springs that were in the baby's room so if I can just get the vanity out of there we can start painting! We have a yard sale on Saturday for the neighborhood and I have 3 bins of stuff in the baby's room to sell. Anything that doesn't sell is going to Goodwill and then we'll really be ready to put together the nursery.
My sciatica has been out of control the past week which is making sleeping hard. We had to drive 2 hours each way on Saturday to meet our friend and DH had a delivery and it really hurt. I'm a little concerned because we have a lot of travel in the next 3 weeks. We have to drive an hour each way to our birthing classes at the hospital (3 days), I have 2 doctors appointments that are each an hour away, and I have my shower at home which is 2.5 hours away. Anyone have any tips for riding in the car with sciatica pain?
Otherwise, things are going well and little man is moving around like crazy. DH loves feeling him move but asks if he's hurting me. Unless he's kicking me in the hip he's not. I feel like he's laying sideways in me though as I can feel him kick and hit me near both of my hips and I haven't felt anything up near my ribcage. Is this normal?
King26, I never actually got kicked in the ribs by Z. I think its because my torso is long since I'm tall, he never really reached that territory. I would get weird sensations where it felt like he was pushing a leg out to the side though, like below my ribcage. So what you are describing sounds normal to me
I just signed up for the donations place to pick up FIL's clothes next Monday. I think I'm sadder about it than H. It was rougher for H when we bagged it all up in Feb and then had to unpack it all to find his dad's wallet and keys ( and listed the contents while repacking just in case). I think I'm bummed because it's like real real now. Plus there's a guy hanging around MIL when we visit. All that's in the bags is clothes though, so not really anything I can keep for A.
King26, my little guy is transverse as well, but I think he is higher up, as I have SO much rib pain. As for the car--my back and sciatic have been awful, and we live in a rural area so lots of driving to get anywhere. Do you have heated seats? if so, USE THEM. Also, when possible, have H drive so you can adjust positions as much as possible. We took a 2 hour trip for memorial day (each way) and it was the first time I was unable to sleep in the car bc my back hurt so bad and I had to rearrange myself every 20 seconds.
Not much here. Little man is moving like crazy. We are 33 weeks and our baby bbq is this coming weekend. I cannot wait to see my sister and some close friends! I am not looking forward to hosting 7 house guests, however, haha. We have been getting lots of packages in the mail for the last week with gifts from people who cannot attend. It is really fun.

I hardly saw E over the weekend because H is sick, and I didn't feel that great, so we couldn't risk getting her sick. It sucks so much. I miss her . I'm only dropping milk off again today just to be safe. I'm not sure when I will be able to spend time with her again, since I never got full blown sick.
She's doing great with bottles, and is able to finish 2-3 a day (what she doesn't finish she gets via her feeding tube). She's having a small issue with one of the components of her white blood cells being low, so they are watching that and hopefully it resolves itself soon.
shauni27, We also live in a rural area so it's really a good 45 minutes to an hour to drive anywhere which sucks. I do have heated seats which I hadn't thought about using but I will now!
thoseareradishes, That sucks you haven't been able to see her but it's better to be safe if you aren't feeling well. It sounds like bottle feeding is going well for her though!
thoseareradishes, while I am so sad that you didn't get to see little E this weekend, I am so glad to hear she is doing so well!! Have they given you an estimated ETA of her discharge? King26, life changing, I tell you!!

shauni27, we asked the doctor yesterday, she said probably not before her due date (June 20th), but hopefully soon after. She has to take all meals by bottle, no bradys, and pass her car seat test.
King26, DS was transverse at my 28 week ultrasound, but he's now head down. So much so that the nurse doing my cervical check this morning booped him in the head. But I had some movement at.. 36 weeks or so that felt like he MUST have been transverse still. But he wasn't. He had turned head down. Sometimes he gets his piggies off to one side or the other so I feel him reaching up with his hands and down with his feet. Weird kid.
I'm 50% effaced but haven't really dilated. I know that means nothing, but I wish it did. Get outttt.
38+0 today. Due to GD, etc., they want to induce during week 39. We picked next Thursday night. I'm starting to get pretty scared.
I originally posted this in last week's thread but didn't realize there was already a new thread for this week - I'm so behind on all the news here. Need to catch up!
B will be 6 months in a few days. It seems like everyday brings new surprises and new growth at this point. He is getting so strong and active. He can sit up, he has two teeth, he loves solids, he is working on crawling and getting more adventurous in the water. AND we sleep trained a couple weeks ago and moved him from the bassinet to the nursery a few days ago and he is now basically sleeping through the night. WOOHOO! I hope it's not a fluke but it's been 4 nights in a row now and I think the move to the nursery was a good one - we are both sleeping better, but I do miss having him in our room.
I started back to work last week. I'm so grateful for a long maternity leave. H was also off the last 6 weeks of my leave and it was so nice for the 3 of us to have that time together. During that time, we took B on vacation to Paris and Barcelona and he was such a little champ - so easygoing and sweet, did great on the flights and in the hotel. We've taken him on 4 or 5 other domestic trips so far too, with another next week. I know traveling with a baby may just get harder the older they get but I want to keep trying. I wouldn't say it was a relaxing vacation but we both really enjoyed ourselves, which was frankly more than I had expected.

Yup, this was always how it was with B too. I think it was a good thing because I never really got that "baby is pressing on my lungs" feeling that so many women describe in late pregnancy - he always hung out nice and low between my hips. I thought he felt transverse until the end but he was actually head down all of third tri.
knx9211, I was induced at 39+1 and she was born on 39+2. While I was anxious before hand, it was an awesome experience for me. Because it was, I already told my doc that if we are blessed with a #2, I'm inducing again with her.
shauni27, we asked the doctor yesterday, she said probably not before her due date (June 20th), but hopefully soon after. She has to take all meals by bottle, no bradys, and pass her car seat test.
What do they look for in the car seat test? That's not something they do here.

They did this with A before they would release her because she was so small. They had me put her in her carseat and took her for an hour and monitored her breathing and heart rate to make sure she could ride safely without asphyxiating.

Yep, she has to sit in her car seat for 90 minutes without having a brady (drop in heart rate and oxygen saturation).

This seems so extreme. H hates the carseat, and she hated it even more when she was a newborn. She'd scream her head off on a 5-minute trip. So maybe she wouldn't have any health issues in it, but she and everyone within hearing distance would be absolutely miserable for that 90 minutes.

Most of the babies I do car seat tests on sleep through the majority of the test. I like to do them right after the baby has eaten. We also do them for 90 minutes.
knx9211 , good luck! Even if labor is hard, it'll soon be over and your babe will be snuggled in your arms.
I'm having a lazy day after a busy weekend. We had a little party for DS yesterday which was fun but tiring to get ready for and clean up after. DD and DS are both napping so I'm laying in bed, relaxing. DS got his one year shots today, there was a little crying but he was back to normal quickly enough afterward.
dellabear, I'm glad he took it well. I feel like the 1 year shots were the worst for A so far. She didn't cry much for the others, but she hates strangers and got so upset at being weighed and measured to begin with. Then the nurse gave her the 4 shots in the arms. She is a total skinny minny, and I can't believe she didn't do them in the thigh... She gets her 18 month shots in July, and I'm already dreading it.
Those with toddlers, do you have any advice on how I can stop A from smearing food in her hair every.damn.meal? Is there some sort of kid bath cap thingy I could put on her? She doesn't do it to smear the food, she just constantly runs her hands through her hair, including at mealtime. I'm sick of trying to wash it all off with a washcloth, and depending on the meal (like breakfast) I don't always have time to give her a bath right after.

I seriously just said to DH this morning that we don't need bibs for her clothes, we need them for her hair. When I said it, her hands were covered in yogurt (because grabbing yogurt with your hands to eat it makes way more sense than using the spoon, right?), and then I was like, oh shoot, don't say hair, because then she'll want to show off that she knows what hair is, and she'll touch it with her gross yogurt hands!
Obviously I have no advice. I generally just let her walk around with sticky hair all day.Save
loira- all shots here are done in their thighs. (Or so I thought...)
DD will be 6 months old on the 24th! Really?!? I can't believe she is getting so big.
We need to figure out a better routine for night time I think, she is not a fan of going to bed in her bed. (Sleeps in it fine for the most part once she's asleep. But getting her asleep in there is another story)

OMG yes! Don't say 'hair'! Or 'head'! Or 'hat'! I've not even attempted to get her to use a spoon or fork. I'm still trying to teach her that food should not be squirreled away down the side of her chair. Kids are so gross. Telling her 'no' is also unwise. My kid sees 'no' as a challenge. You can't really punish them at this age, and sometimes there just aren't unpleasant natural consequences.
I love her so much, but she is so exhausting right now.
awick14, they gave A shots in the thigh for 2-4-6 month vaxes. I don't honestly know why they gave them in her arms at 12 months. I wish I had questioned it, but at the time I thought it might have something to do with how the vaccine got into her system (probably stupid, but am not a medical professional).

OMG, do I ever know exactly what you mean. DS is great but so much more work now that he's so mobile and dropping his AM nap.
Sorry to tell you the PHN mentioned that the 18 months shots are also in the arms. I didn't think to ask why. DS is chunky all over so it doesn't really matter where he gets them.
