I seriously just said to DH this morning that we don't need bibs for her clothes, we need them for her hair. When I said it, her hands were covered in yogurt (because grabbing yogurt with your hands to eat it makes way more sense than using the spoon, right?), and then I was like, oh shoot, don't say hair, because then she'll want to show off that she knows what hair is, and she'll touch it with her gross yogurt hands!
Obviously I have no advice. I generally just let her walk around with sticky hair all day.Save
Telling her 'no' is also unwise. My kid sees 'no' as a challenge. You can't really punish them at this age, and sometimes there just aren't unpleasant natural conseque I love her so much, but she is so exhausting right now.
I think it's just age, you are not alone. Z exhausts me some days as well. He's starting to push boundaries ("no" means laugh and run away or keep doing whatever it is you are doing at the moment) and some days are rougher than others.
loira... I have no advice. He either walks around with sticky hair, or I attack his head with wipes or something. We generally do bath right after dinner. And yes, don't say hair, head or hat when your kid has messy hands!
This age is utterly exhausting. We're starting 123 Magic with E since he's so close to 2, and have had success with short timeouts (minute and a half).

OMG yes! Don't say 'hair'! Or 'head'! Or 'hat'! I've not even attempted to get her to use a spoon or fork. I'm still trying to teach her that food should not be squirreled away down the side of her chair. Kids are so gross. Telling her 'no' is also unwise. My kid sees 'no' as a challenge. God, yes. Stop pulling my hair! Stop being suicidal! Just sit and be cute and play with your toys for a while!
Thanks guys. It's nice to know I'm not alone. Even A's sentences are orders for me. "Go park, go whee!" She just wants to walk around endlessly, but she refuses to let go of my hand and walk by herself (she's physically capable but I think it's a confidence thing). It makes it really hard to adhere to my parenting 'philosophy', which up until now has been to ignore her as much as possible while she plays by herself and I try to do my freelance work.
Those with toddlers, do you have any advice on how I can stop A from smearing food in her hair every.damn.meal? Is there some sort of kid bath cap thingy I could put on her? She doesn't do it to smear the food, she just constantly runs her hands through her hair, including at mealtime. I'm sick of trying to wash it all off with a washcloth, and depending on the meal (like breakfast) I don't always have time to give her a bath right after.

I'm so excited that your babies will be here soon King26, knx9211, shauni27 loira, Your story reinforces that I'm nervous about starting solids next month...ugh.
C is 5 months old now and so much fun. He is talking a TON, laughing, and just generally a very easygoing and happy boy. He isn't rolling yet (thanks to a very large head!) but is holding himself up much better in the last couple of weeks. In the last two weeks, we've conquered air and long-distance car travel and he did amazingly. He does have his first bad diaper rash yesterday and today, though. It's so sad to see him so uncomfortable. I got some good advice on MMM though and hopefully we'll get rid of it in the next 24 hours.
With summer here, we plan to try swimming soon. I've ordered a long-sleeve full bodysuit rash guard and an SPF hat, disposable swim diapers (for layer 1), and reusable swim diapers (for layer 2). What else do I need to know before hitting the pool?

I would work on the fork/spoon. I also don't serve food that's super messy if we need to leave quickly!
But I'm sooooo lazy! Also, I still have a lot of anxiety over how much she eats. I guess I could do the fork/spoon for snack though, since I'm less concerned with her intake then. Or give it to her at the end of the meal so she can play with it. I'm dying to send her to daycare - I am not equipped with the patience to teach her this stuff.
King26 I felt the majority of movement down low the whole pregnancy. never anything by my ribs. grover, my DD is 8 weeks tomorrow and yes, growing so fast! the 3m carters stuff is still ok, but everything that says 0-3 is starting to be too tight/short. It's too bad cause I have so much cute stuff in this size, lol. I do like putting her in dresses with diaper covers cause then the length doesn't matter as much. shauni27, 33 weeks! you are getting so close. thoseareradishes, are you feeling better? I hope you've gotten to go spend some time with your baby again. knx9211, I was 0 cm when I went in to the hospital and my water broke and I was 6 cm about 3 hours later. I wanted to cry when they told me I was 0, but it didn't seem to matter to my body, lol. You never know how it will go. And holy cow, any day now! janegold, we are debating when to move DD into her own room. We never kept DS in our room at all, but this time I am feeling very attached to having her so close. DH wants to move her now, but I'm hesitating. Chrysanthemum have fun with the swimming! your list sounds good. you could always get one of those floats that you can put baby in. loira, I let daycare teach my son so much. I think in some ways it's easier for them. Like, by his first birthday he still wouldn't pick up any food and feed himself, then he moved up to the next older room and by the second day he was doing it like a pro. He just needed the motivation of seeing all the other kids doing it.

I hope I'm not rubbing it in by saying that I freaking love H's daycare. I mean, I miss her during the day, and I've had moments of concern that she likes her daycare teacher a bit TOO much (and then that teacher left, and I learned not to take for granted that my kid loves her daycare teacher), but they teach her so much. And it isn't just the teachers, I think a lot of it is peer pressure.
I have no idea how much she uses the fork/spoon there though. We've given them to her for months at home and she'd mostly play with them and then throw them. It's only in the last couple of weeks that she's gotten decent at using the spoon. But sometimes I can see her get impatient with it and just go back to using her hands. I didn't do much to really work with her on it, except put food on it for her and then give her the spoon to guide it to her mouth.

mpc, I'm feeling better except for a tiny bit of a sore throat, which I've had on and off since I delivered. It's weird and I'm wondering when/if I should see someone about it. And yes E is also growing so fast - she's almost out of newborn clothes! She's 8 1/2 pounds now. I have a couple of the dresses with diaper covers from Carters, and also a few rompers - they are so cute. Can't wait until she is home so she can wear things other than sleepers.
Chrysanthemum, E gets diaper rash a lot, and they switch to damp gauze as wipes instead of regular wipes. We also use something called stoma powder, but I'm not sure how common that is outside of the NICU.

Not at all common. I haven't used it since I had adult patients with ostomys. When I worked NICU, we used damp gauze and the neo would order a compounded prescription butt cream.

cactuscookie, don't worry, you're not rubbing it in. I'm really glad H loves her daycare (and that you do, too). I also know I'm so lucky to have been able to stay home with A for as long as I have. I would not have wanted to go back to work when she was teeny tiny, which I know is a reality for most women in the US, whether they want to or not. But I really want to get back to full time work now, and I really want A to have lots of playtime with other kids and caregivers - especially since she'll most likely be an only child. I'm currently looking for a job. Freelance is a nice little bit of money, but I don't want to do it full time. Most freelancers I know who make full-time money work much more than full time hours. And constantly drumming up new business, marketing myself, and dealing with very difficult clients because I can't afford to say no is not for me. My business has so far been word of mouth, and I only work with polite and fair clients.
So I mentioned something to DH about taking the hospital tour so we knew what the rooms would look like so we could pack our hospital bags. He's like why do I need a bag? I said because you'll be staying there over night. He was like WHAT? No I'm not. I'm going home at night. Don't you go home right after you have the baby?
Uh no dude. Plus if I'm in labor overnight you aren't going anywhere since we live an hour away. He is seriously in shock right now. When I told him I'd be in the hospital with the baby for probably 48 hours afterwards he looked scared LOL. I told him if I was fine and the baby is fine he could go home after the birth but I wasn't sure he would want too.

Poor guy. He has no clue. I bet he wants to stay with you and LO.
dude, mpc , 8 WEEKS?! literally cannot comprehend. I feel like you had her 3 weeks ago?!?!
it's crazy. truly. I had all these grand ideas of stuff I would get done during my maternity leave and now it's over halfway over and i'm like, where did the time go?? And my baby, I mean, she's gone from under 8 lbs to almost 12 lbs now. That's a 50% increase. It goes by SO QUICK.

Oh my gosh thoseareradishes, she is getting so big!! C's daycare teacher suggested wet washcloths instead of wipes too, and it's made a huge difference. The rash is much improved since last night. Hopefully it'll be totally clear soon!
so it's official... I'm prepping for our FET cycle! I paid a (non-refundable) deposit and got on the calendar. I started BCPs and antibiotics. I have my appointment set for my mock transfer (in 11 days), at which time we'll do medication education. Tentative transfer date of July 25!
I'm not looking forward to being on oral BCPs again. they all make me absolutely bonkers. I prefer lower dose stuff that works at the site of action (nuvaring, IUD) instead having the oral pills that give me systemic effects.
I passed my glucose test! Woohoo! As someone who bakes as a side job, I'm very relieved.
Heart rate was 135 and my uterus is measuring 28 weeks so it looks good. Got my TDAP shot, they took 4 vials of blood, and everything came back good. It looks like my white blood cell count is elevated a bit but not much.
I go back in 2 weeks and was able to make the appointment the same day as our birthing class so only 1 drive for 2 things.
I'm SO tired this week, like hard to get out of bed/walk up the stairs tired. Super unusual for me, im usually at the gym by 6am 4-5 days a week. I've been twice this week so far...I'm not sure what's going on with me. I started spotting Sunday at 7DPO and have been spotting/light bleeding ever since, I expect a full AF tomorrow/Sunday. This pattern is getting so old, I'm actually looking forward to the RE next week.
Hoping the extra rest will help, but it just seems to make things worse ðŸ˜.
King26- the beds are comfortable for the men and DH didn't really want to stay but once she was here he changed his mind for sure. Lol (he did go home during the day so that he could walk the dog and such though)
