What should I get DD for her birthday? She is into princesses but not barbies, she is very interested in the neighbor's little electric car but will.not.drive it (I wonder if she would drive her own though?), and she doesn't have a tricycle yet but may be interested? Or may be not at all interested. What are your four year olds into??

DS turns 4 in 2 weeks. Items I have on his amazon wishlist to share with a few family members are: Magic Schoolbus books, Ordinary People Change the World book set (he loves these books at preschool), Zingo, Etch a Sketch, scooter, globe, bean bag chair for his new bedroom.
Any thoughts on the Leapfrog Leap Start interactive book toy?
DS helped me pick this out for a girl in his class. And now he wants it too!
Generally, he's really been into games (Candyland, Sneaky Snacky Squirrel, Zingo at school, Richard Scarry game), larger puzzles, legos, and books.
If you want to do a bike, I'd skip the tricycle and get a small bike with training wheels.
Hijacking a little (sorry!): when do you move on to the smaller legos instead of duplos? We haven't bought any of the smaller ones yet though I'm guessing he would be fine with them? Or maybe I should stick to the bigger ones for now since we have DD to worry about??
My four year old (almost 4.5) loves --bike with training wheels --Playmobil sets with a baby in them. I think they have some princess ones, too. --Magnatiles --ee Boo brand matching games (faces, candy) --the Disney Princess cupcake game is super cute! Kids just love the little cupcakes. We hardly ever actually play the game by the rules. --dress up clothes

DS started to be interested around 4 and a half and DD around 4. But neither could build sets at those ages. I'd say DS was 5 before he could build sets with the small ones, and DD is unlikely to be able to at 5.
Bike was my first thought. What about a dollhouse or Calico Critters set/house?
Regarding the car, we got a two-seater Power Wheels when DD was 4 and DS was 2. DD very quickly lost interest in it (she still fits in it at 6 but never uses it), but DS loved it and still does at 3.5.

JRo,DD turned 4 in January and that is when I started introducing the small Legos. She still plays with the Duplos, but I'm hoping that by Christmas/her 5th birthday we will have moved away from Duplos completely.

We had moved onto lego juniors at age 4. DS1 just turned six and can manage to do most Legos (9-14 boxes and under) just fine without help.
We have a 22 month old that plays with the little Legos just fine. We do keep the small Legos in our loft area that is gated off so he doesn't get into them unsupervised.

We started getting M Lego Junior sets around 4yo. They are the traditional Legos but the sets are easier to put together.
B turns 4 in August, and is super in to Playmobil right now - he loves acting out little stories and imagining scenarios, it's pretty fun to watch. They have a TON of little tiny pieces to get lost, so we pulled the really itty bitty stuff out until he's a bit older.
Legos are a hit - JRo, we've just started getting him some regular small sets, he can't build them yet, but likes to "help" us build and then play with them.
Stomp Rocket is a fun add-on if you don't have one.
I liked the dollhouse suggestion.
He loves his play tent - we found a great one at Ikea.

My 4 yr old loves her micro mini scooter. She likes it better than the bike. SHe is too big for her tricycle now. We got her princess dresses, a baby carriage stroller- (she outgrew her old one and we passed it to little sister) She loves the diseny princess barbies even if shes is not into regular barbies
DD was really into Calico Critters, Playmobil sets, and dolls at that age. A good scooter or bike is good, too. Ditto the mini micro scooter rec. DD didn't get hers until she was 5 but would have loved it much earlier. It's an amazing scooter!

For a bike, at that age, I would get a balance bike or a regular bike and take the pedals off.
Do they still make the Magic-clip princesses? They are small dolls with dresses that you slip on and off, and my dd loved those at that age, along with the Busy Books with figures of things she was into (Frozen, MLP, Lion Guard). She still loves the Busy Books and we just got the Moana one for her!
I just saw that they brought back those "fashion plates" (and corresponding action figure plates). I had these as a kid - you mix and match a head, body and legs and then rub over it with a crayon and end up with an outfit that you can color in. I just got the action figure plates for my 4 year old and he loves them!
