So, for the last few days, every time I open our big wooden front door, I see dried mud and little green worms just inside the door. After a couple rounds of this, I tried Googling it. I think we have mud dauber wasps. They must be trying to build a nest UNDER my door or something? They build little mud tubes and lay eggs in them. Before sealing the tubes, they sting other bugs (i.e. the green worms or often spiders) to paralyze them and stuff them in the tubes. When the eggs hatch, they have fresh food to eat. Isn't that just horrifying??? Insects are brutal. Anyway, the mud daubers are supposedly beneficial bugs and rarely sting. I'm still hoping they give up soon and we stop finding mud and worms every day.

They need to find a better home. We had those tubes on the porch and I had our exterminator remove and treat the area. I would not want wasps building a nest under my door.
OMG update, we have to spray! Now there was an even bigger pile of worms (I just swept them out) and whenever I open the door the waspy thing is right there buzzing around. It's not giving up. Ick!
