What's happening in your book? Are you to the good parts yet?
I hear it's Father's Day in the US this weekend (and maybe other places as well, I'm not really sure about that; Father's Day isn't until September here in Australia). If you have plans, I hope they are enjoyable.
QOTW: You're home alone and have the whole day to clean your house, what's on the playlist to get or keep your motivated and moving?
I am reading The-Unraveling-of-Mercy-Louis , I am halfway through and things started happening pretty quick. Reading is my plan for the afternoon.
Tonight I am trying out a new book club. I was invited by a coworker, but I am oddly nervous.
QOTW: Well, I have a housecleaner come every other week - best money I have ever spent. But, if I were getting ready for a party with cleaning and prep I would pick an 80's mix or the Wicked soundtrack. And yes, I would be (badly) singing along to both!
I just finished my re-read of Ann Patchett's State of Wonder, which I loved as much as the first time. Still working on Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It's very good but somewhat heavy, figuratively and literally as it's a hefty hardback.
QOTW: I actually prefer quiet for housework (well, for most things -- I hardly ever have music on in the house if I'm alone).
I'm 76% into A Gentleman in Moscow and it's just keeping steady.
Well, I've been dancing around to the frozen soundtrack at the request of my kids while cleaning up the breakfast mess! Home alone, it would either be silent or listening to NPR podcasts.
Into the Water which is my priority since it is due this weekend Once and for all- Sarah Dessen's new one. I am almost done Summer Secrets- Jane Green on Kindle
QOTW: It is usually Pandora I've been hooked on 90s-2000s hits
I'm about a third of the way through The Fifth Season by NK Jemisin. It's really good, but my reading motivation is being mooshed by the need to pack stuff at home and also my younger kitty. She had surgery and part of her small intestine removed and I'm watching over her like a helicopter parent. I hate that she's uncomfortable and probably in some pain right now!!
QOTW: I have a Women Who Rock playlist on my Spotify so I'd probably play that or maybe the showtunes station.

I made good progress on "Yes Please" by Amy Pohler, and started "Big Little Lies" by Lianne Morrison, so far so good, but I'm ready for it to pick up.
Spending next weekend with my dad for father's day, but hoping that means less crowded resturant. We gave FIL his gift early and he was excited.
QOTW: Depends on my mood, but most likely something upbeat/pop like Katy Perry or Taylor Swift. Sometimes I like to clean in the quiet, or put on some light tv show for background noise.
Read last week Dollbaby by Laura Lane McNeal - historical fiction; 3.5 stars; this was good but the twist of the story required the most interesting character to not be the narrator of the story and I think that made the book drag down a little because the narrator was a boring character Saga, Vol 1 by Brian K Vaughan - graphic novel; 5 stars; this is only the third graphic novel I have ever read, but hands down my favorite so far. I'm anxiously awaiting for my online library waitlist to release the second volume to me
Currently reading The Twelve Lives of Samuel Hawley by Hannah Tinti- fiction; at first I wasn't sure about this book, but it has gotten better as it goes along. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury - classic; somehow missed this as required reading in school, so checking it out now
QOTW I generally listen to audiobooks when doing cleaning around the house, but if I'm not doing that it would be various Pandora stations on shuffle or maybe Imagine Dragons songs
I'm reading Run by Ann Patchett, which has been sitting on my shelf forever and which I'm enjoying.
Listening to Dangerous Women, which is a compilation of short stories edited by GRR Martin. I had started it a while ago but had to return it before I finished, and in particular I hadn't gotten to the short stories by Diana Gabaldon and Martin himself. I'm reminded that in general I don't really like short stories because I don't really have time to get to know the characters. But, the stories themselves are fine.
QOTW: podcasts or audiobooks. I rarely put on music for myself anymore because apparently I am old.
I'm reading the Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I'm only like 30 pages in so nothing really exciting has happened yet. It's good so far though.
I would put on a Pandora station - maybe 90s country (yeah Garth brooks! lol) or one of their cardio stations.
I've had a copy of this for years that I picked up when I saw it used but decided to wait to read until the trilogy was finished. Sounds like it may be a while for book 3 from what I can find online.
I am reading Girl at War by Sara Novic. I'm 150 pages into the book. It's a good book. I finished The One-in-a-Million Boy by Monica Wood this week. I thought it was really good. It has a similar feel to A Man Called Ove.
I'm spending my weekend running my daughter around to birthday parties. This seems to be the weekend that all the parents of kids with summer birthdays picked for their party.
QOTW: I prefer the house quiet when I clean - it's kind of meditative.

I haven't been reading much - watching TV, yard work. I bought a "new" car and that's taken up time. But I just started "Of Books and Bagpipes" by Paige Shelton. It's rainy today and I'm wishing I could curl up with the book instead of meet with co-workers.
QOTW: It used to be Jimmy Buffett. These days, I've hired someone to clean for me ... yes, I'm lazy but good LORD, I love it!

I liked this book too! Though I am interested in what you think about the ending once you're done with it.
I read The Hate U Give this week 5* - I'm so glad I read this one.
Started The Dinner last night.
QOTW: I shuffle Air Supply radio, Zac Brown Band radio, Taylor Swift radio, Queen radio & Today's top hits on Pandora for cleaning. Totally random mix but I love it
I finished Swimming Lessons yesterday and am listening to the Handmaids Tale, but I have to be in a certain mood to listen, and that hasn't been the case much this week.
If I am working in my house (painting, cleaning, etc.) I'll cue up some music, either shuffle an upbeat playlist on my iPhone or select an artist radio from Amazon music. If I was in the right mood I might listen to a podcast or book.
The last books I've finished were The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood (enjoyed it, good suspenseful build up), What Alice Forgot by Liane Morrison (liked it, but the end felt kind of abrupt, and I didn't realize it had an infertility story line, which I tend to avoid right now), and Modern Lovers by Emma Straub (it was ok, quick read but not super compelling, and as one reviewer said it's full of white FWPs).
Now I'm reading Wild Magic, a YA fantasy book, part of a quartet by Tamora Pierce, relayed to her other series Song of the Lioness which I read last year. A good friend said she loved these books when she was young. They're definitely for a young reader, but I really like the role models the protagonists are for little feminist girls
Slightly related, I've been watching Anne With an "E" on Netflix and really liking it. Somehow I never read Anne of Green Gables books when I was younger, and now I'm thinking I really should!
QoTW: oh probably some musical theatre stuff I can sing along too, or upbeat indie stuff on Spotify.

I've been considering reading The Blind Assassin for years -- a trusted friend told me it's the only one of Atwood's books she would ever consider recommending to me. But I just have not been able to pull the trigger and get a copy, even a library copy. I may have to move it closer to the top of the I-should-really-get-around-to-reading-it-to-find-out-if-I-will-like-it list.
I was an adult when I read the Anne series for the first time. And then I booked a cruise to the Maritime Provinces to see Green Gables & PEI, expect the route changed between when I booked it and took the cruise so I missed the stop at PEI. Finally got there about 4 years later and loved it -- both the area and the books. In fact, if I had not already gone through an immigration process, I would seriously consider moving to PEI, but one visa process in a lifetime is more than enough for me. The Emily of New Moon series is great as well.

I'm reading Queen Without a Crown. It's been a bad reading week for me -- I've been deciding whether or not to actually come down with a cold so I've been in a mood to read, but not physically able to sit down and stay awake long enough to read more than a few pages. I wish I would either fight off the cold or get it over with soon.
QOTW: Lately I've been binging on Passenger and David Bowie, sometimes a shuffle of a playlist of both artists, sometimes just one. I'm also throwing some Marc Cohn (particularly the Join the Parade album), Billy Joel, Simon & Garfunkel, and Bing Crosby in there as well. Yep, I'm all over the place musically right now.
I'm working on the last book in His Dark Materials trilogy. I tried again to get my kid to read it; he would love it but he's very stubborn.
QOTD: I've cultivated an awesome Sublime channel on Pandora, or I'll put on a Phish show. Lately I've been listening to their Halloween cover of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.
I finished Orange is the New Black, and I've moved on to Homegoing, but I'll be travelling the day of the board's discussion so I won't be able to participate in real time.
No plans for Father's Day. My dad is in another state, and I sent him a card that he won't actually get for about a month (long story) and I'll give him a call but that's it. My FIL passed away almost 15 years ago, and we don't have kids, so it's basically just like any other day in our house.
QOTW: You are describing my Wednesdays, which is my designated cleaning day. I leave the TV on HGTV and that's when they play a marathon of the various Property Brothers shows, and I basically just do my best to not get distracted by other people's houses that are fancier and better designed than mine. Also, I never spend the entire day cleaning; it's more like 2-4 hours, depending on how lazy I'm being.

I loved this book! One of the best this year! I thought it was well written and evoked so many emotions, especially since Ana is only a couple years older than my daughter during the war. As for the ending, I understand why the author ended it the way she did, but I really wish there had been a little more finality. I really want to know where her life went after, who she ended up with, where she ended up.... So many unanswered questions....
I finished Come Sundown by Nora Roberts this week. I enjoyed it. I'm trying to decide what next. Maybe The Orchid House by Lucinda Riley or I might go ahead and start Homegoing for the discussion. Except I usually like to read those super close to the date, but I'll be working that whole day anyway.
QOTW: Usually something I can sing along to, like some 90s country or alternative.
