Thickened liquids?

My 15 month old has dysphagia and I'm looking for a thickener that doesn't continue to thicken over time. I need it to be stable so I can mix his liquids before  daycare in the morning. We have a prescription for Simply Thick, which works well and I like, but our insurance won't cover it so I'm trying to figure out if there is  less expensive alternative.

My cousin used to get Hormel Thick and Easy for my aunt's "Happy Hour" martinis- you can buy it from Amazon and it comes in nectar and honey consistencies. Not sure how stable it is; it did seem to be OK for the hour it took her to enjoy her cocktail.

Does he prescribing doctor have any ideas?
