The red you see in the corner is the kitchen; the 3 rooms are open to each other except that one post; the kitchen to dining room has a bar height counter. We are going to make the blue dining room into a library/study/reading room, basically an extension of the living space but more cozy.
The sellers told us on day one that the foyer light, dining room chandelier, and kitchen chandelier are not staying with the property. They promised to replace them with what was there. All that is understandable and cool BUT what is staying is hideous. I can live with the kitchen but the foyer and dining are just awful. Please help me shop! Problem is we are pretty broke so no $1000 or even $500 lights right now please. Would love if the 3 lights tied in since the space is pretty open.
I like kind of Swedish modern and midcentury modern and I think they would both look good in this house with these colors.
I am ok with funky for the foyer because I think a statement piece would be good there. Not so sure about the library or kitchen though. For the library I was thinking maybe a hanging drum lamp shade type if we could match the drum for a floor or table lamp it would be cool.

Beautiful house. I'm no help with the lighting, but can you ask to keep the Herman Miller Eames lounge chair? If it's the real thing, those chairs are amazing.

Ironically that is probably the only thing in their whole house I did not fall in love with. Maybe I am just weird.
First link I like but I hate gold/brass (yes I know it's back) and I think the silver is too silver. Middle link just went to Google. Last link is cute but I think too big for the space. Definitely feels mid century. Yeah, baby!

Check out goinnglighting.com. We searched all the fancy light stores and bought 2 in house and couldn't justify the price difference for the third and bought it online.
I love our lights but they are very modern and super pricey. ET2 was one brand we really liked.

That's funny. I had no clue they were a popular chair until a coworker was obsessed, but she wouldn't buy one because they're $6K. Then I started seeing them on tv everywhere. The real ones are very comfortable, but I've sat in the knock offs and they are terrible.
Do you have an IKEA near you? Their fixtures can definitely be considered Swedish modern, and they are quite inexpensive. I had a few we put in our old house, and the realtor & buyer made a big deal over them when we sold. They were well under $100 (some under $50) at the time. You just have to be careful to make sure they cast enough/the right light. Seeing them in the huge IKEA showroom can be deceiving.
This was years ago and I don't know their selection now, but it could be worth a look.
Also, am I the only one who thinks it's odd that they're taking the lights? We're thinking of testing the waters and selling, by owner, but there is no way I'd take down lights to move with me.
akafred, all of our lights that we've updated are Possini. Both of the ones you posted look pretty great.
A word to the wise.. they use weird light bulbs. They're REALLY bright, so you'll want a dimmer. (This is my preference in life. I hate rooms that are too dim.)

When we signed the disclosures and condition statement at our old house to sell, the realtor asked if there were any light fixtures that meant a lot to us or anything like that that we would want to keep. It's apparently not that unusual. It's fine as long as you disclose it in the listing etc, which these sellers did. They also took their best thermometer and replaced with generic, but again I knew they were going to.
My coworker just bought and when she did the walk through the sellers had just removed every single fixture. She said the curtain rods looked like they had yanked them right out of the walls. She didn't want to fight it though.

Wow!! Maybe it's a regional thing, because here, the only thing people take are appliances. I'm likely wrong, but I would think fixtures go into the appraisal value.
And also the 3-bulb variant for the kitchen chandelier.
But I need something that doesn't necessarily match but doesn't clash with the dining room that we're going to turn into more of a sitting room/library/reading nook type thing. Any thoughts?

I've been eyeing this one. Something like it may blend but not match.
I don't have a specific light, but a fixture that looks the same with fewer orbs might not provide the light you seek. We have three hanging fixtures and they create puddles of light (single lamp) instead of the wider glow I expected (they were here when we moved in). So if you go with a single similar style fixture make sure it has a larger circumference.
