I need a dress for my SIL's wedding next month and I have no idea what to get. My shape was more pear-like, but since having my daughter, I'm bigger up top as well. When I tried on my existing dresses, I ended up looking like an undefined blob. I'm not looking for anything too formal, probably reasonably long, and something that I can wrangle my super wiggly toddler while wearing. What styles do you recommend? Thank you!

I like looking online at Nordstrom. They always have free shipping and you can search by event, neckline, and whole lot of criteria. shop.nordstrom.com/c/womens-dresses-shop. Good luck shopping! Nordstrom rack is good, too, but I don't think their shipping is free.

For me, the most important criteria is hitting at the smallest part of my waist. That can be a natural waist or empire depending on how you carry your weight but it makes a world of difference and keeps me from feeling like a blob. I also require straps that can cover a real bra. Knowing which shape and sleeves are a must eliminates 70% of the dresses I see and it's easy to grab ones that work even if I don't love them on the hanger. Sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised.

I like a knee length sheath. I don't like anything that flares out at the bottom, but I 100% agree with the person who said it depends on where/how you carry the weight.

I am plus size as well and carry a lot of weight in my stomach area. I have actually had good luck getting wedding dresses from Dress Barn. I agree with something that comes in at your waist. Here are a couple options I saw on their site:

This is a Wtoo (Watters & Watters) bridesmaid dress that I wore last weekend. Empire waist, V-neck, and straps that could accommodate a regular bra. The sash helped with waist definition. Might be hard to get the exact dress by next month, but if you see something similar try it on! I had my doubts when I saw it online, but it ended up being very comfortable and flattering.
PS: I'm more top heavy, but one of the other girls was more pear shaped and had chosen the same dress. It looked great on her as well. I think the wrap effect on the skirt covers a lot of different types of problem areas. Both of us ordered plus sizes.
