I suspect Pip reacts to isothiazolinones - a common preservative in laundry detergents. He has an appointment with a dermatologist to discuss my suspicion on Wednesday.
Most of the laundry detergents that do not contain isothiazolinones are "not recommended" by our favorite group. That in itself doesn't bother me one bit. As much as they try claiming Allen's Naturally, and others, aren't strong enough to get clean diapers, I have never had a stink or rash problem caused by the diapers not getting clean enough. What I am running into is a feeling of doing a half-a$$ed job because Pip's poop stains so often, even with manually pre-washing the poop diapers and whites just are more dingy (probably from lack of optical illusion aka brighteners).
If you were in my shoes, would you just try to rationalize with yourself that dingy, stained diapers are fine as long as LO is rash free and diapers don't stink or would you try a different brand of laundry detergent that is also Isothiazolinone free and hope it works better?

My response is probably predictable ... I really didn't care what DS's diapers looked like on the inside. I've always stuck to "CD-safe" detergents like Tiny Bubbles, Country Save or Charlie's. Rash-free and stink-free was good enough for me.

How did they do on the rest of your laundry?
I think part of my problem is IMO the liquid Allen's works better than the powdered but since I got the new washer dosing the liquid Allen's became more of a pain as I could no longer rinse the measuring spoon in the washer as it filled. I like dosing powdered detergent so much better.
Ha, that's one of my only complaints about our new washer is I can't rinse out the cups or my hands as it's filling.
Anyway, I agree with freezor that the inside of the diaper is negligent compared to no rash. I still use Tide so I can't give advice as to what to use for your other laundry.
