I'm returning to teaching (HS English) after being a SAHM and then subbing for 1.5 years while taking classes to renew my license. I'm hearing that the public schools tend to hire later in the summer -- true? I have interviewed at three private schools and just found out I didn't get the last one that would have been amazing, so I'm feeling discouraged.
In my district current teachers have until July 15th to resign without any blemish on their employment. My good friend works hr and she said they truly are always hiring. I am currently on leave but I was hired in Oct so I know it does happen. I would still check in with hr to make sure that they have all of your references, documentation etc. Good luck and try not to get discouraged.

My principal tries to fill as many positions as she can before the district closes for a few weeks in July. Nothing gets done during that time. Once she returns to work, she fills any new vacancies that have popped up due to resignations. That said, we have something like 10 vacancies right now!
I am new teacher and spent the last few months job hunting. I accepted a position yesterday. It was my third interview after I had applied to about 20-25 openings. I was quite surprised that many school districts posted positions in March and April. I was really worried about finding a job, but as time went on I noticed that new positions were consistently posted. Many teachers I talked to told me that the districts would continue to hire throughout the summer.

I just got a position for this year, last week. You will see more positions open up as it gets closer to the start of the school year, especially as Private school teachers get better paying public school positions, then the private schools are left to scramble.
My district doesn't hire outside the district until closer to the end of the summer, because they have to make sure all the internal positions are filled.

I interviewed for a position last week and had 2nd interview this past weekend. I am going out of my mind waiting to hear back. I love my current job but the one I applied for is at the school where J will attend (my current district has screwy rules about out of district transfers) and it's a really good opportunity for me. Ugh.
I am looking for something in DH's hometown, which would get us out of this isolated, very HCOL area. He loves it here, but I am really over it.
The ad closed on Friday, and they should be making interview calls any time now. I am going crazy waiting, especially given that we will be travelling out of cell range on Friday.
I got hired at my current school in august. Some I found hire before the end of the school year and others get resignations and then hire right before school starts.

My school tries to hire before the end of school. My guess is that they worry about the best candidates being snapped up early. Also, it makes sense to have interviews when the teachers are still on campus. That said, my DH was hired over Labor Day weekend so I wouldn't worry too much about timing. Good luck!
