biking is one of those things I really *want* to get into, but I havent ridden for many years and the last time I did, it was in Ptown and not a good experience at all (narrow streets, lots of cars and people, it was a trainwreck). At this point, I'm scared of riding a bike, but i loved it as a kid!

I actually went for a ride the other day, although I don't think it was technically within the last week so I said this month. I love riding and used to do it all the time (even rode to work when I lived closer and didn't have a kid to drop off) but fell out of it. We just got a bike for the boy at his request, although he definitely hasn't gotten the hang of it yet he's having a blast with it in the driveway. We have a trailer, too, that attaches to either of our bikes.
We want to start doing bike rides as a family, but we are waiting till the kids will ride their bikes. We bought them bikes last year and they REFUSE to learn to ride them. I have been meaning to take them to the bike shop and get the training wheels removed (they put them on so tight, I broke a wrench trying to remove them!) and then making them learn to ride. L has been chomping at the bit to do this, so hopefully, we can accomplish all of this and then I can buy her a bike for graduation.
DW went on kind of a biking kick last year, and rentals have been getting more popular in the city. Last year we rented a few times and also went once at DW's parents' house. We haven't done it at all this year, probably due to laziness and also putting more energy into the gym. It's definitely fun, but we won't be buying bikes because we have nowhere to store them and there's nowhere good to bike directly from our apartment. Plus they make me hurt down there.

One of the docs I know was gently encouraging me to do the weekend Bike MS ride with the team she put together in her clinic. I kept telling her I don't have a bike and I just bought a house and all the spare $$ and time I have is going to that. She let me slide for this year, but I think next year she'll be more persistent. I'd like to get back into riding but that also comes with getting E completely comfortable riding with her training wheels off (we're working on it) so that she could actually go for a ride with me.
We used to ride 3x a week when we were doing triathlons. We finally bought new road bikes after riding hybrids for years, and mine frankly scared me - it's fast, and I tried to learn how to use the clip-in shoes and they just terrified me. I fell and hit my head pretty hard my first time out, and the clip-ins made me never want to go biking. I switched back to normal pedals and finished the racing season that way, but I never really got past the fear. Since I knew we wouldn't be biking a lot with Jen pregnant or with newborns, I let my sister borrow my bike when we moved up here. Someday we'll get back to it...
Biking has been a huge hobby/passion of mine for the past seven years or so. When we lived in Ann Arbor, I was a year round bike commuter and LOVED it. But since we moved to Chicago, I've only ridden once. I need to conquer my fear of the city traffic or find some bike paths to ride on. Now that the weather has cooled down, bike commuting actually is looking pretty attractive - it's probably the fastest way to get to my office. If I manage to pull off bike commuting here, I'll definitely be a fair weather commuter - I got rid of my winter commuter when we moved.
And yes, I'm one of those people who has multiple bikes with different names/purposes.
