I'm teaching High School civics and I'm trying to figure out if it would be too hokey to do patriotic borders around the bulletin board and white board. But I also love shopping for borders and letters, so share your favorite stuff!
I tried to have matching boarders and colors for a while when I did 5th grade. Now that I have upper middle school I try to incorporate social media themes.
I taught K but I would have the kids make all of the decor at the beginning of the year. They would design the bulletin board borders with their names and drawings about themselves. We would then fingerprint butcher paper for thre background.

Rainbow stripes and black accents. I chose it because my chairs are all primary colors but the walls, fixtures, and carpet are muted. The rainbow theme package I purchased online tied it all together.

My theme is history teacher, lol.
I have a ton of posters: Douglass, King, silent sentinels, D-Day, Manzanar, declaration of independence, etc.
I also have a life size cut out of JFK who lives in my corner (lol), collection of TR bobble heads, and a 5 ft painting of Washington that was given to me from Mt. Vernon from a pd I did a few yrs ago.
I had a blue and green theme (high school) that quickly morphed into what I called "cute tacky." I had a bulletin board and surrounding lab stations with chemistry puns laminated on blue or green backgrounds. Also various cute characters wearing their safety gear that my bestie drew and my personal favorite Becky Beaker who either asked a review question or on Friday told a chem joke. (This sounds so lame typed out, but it makes me happy)
Well my current theme is "fight the power" (post November 9, my room got an update...). Lots of resistance posters, feminist quotes, civil rights figures, current events. It's...not subtle.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
My teaching partner & I are doing an emoji theme. The kids get into it and there's a ton of cheap stuff at the dollar store/WalMart/Target dollar spot to add in. The fun part about themes is that other people always want to contribute, too. We did a Superhero theme for two years as well; between that and emojis, people were always dropping off something little to add to our rooms.

I've done Monkeys and Dr Seuss in my 3rd and 4th grade classes. I am bored of it and switching it up this year.
This year I am planning to do Hollywood. Red carpet entrance on the first day. Bulletin board where each kid does a selfie with props like boas and sunglasses. I always read the book "The Big Orange Splot" the first week and have students design a house to go on our road to show how we are all individuals. This year I am going to have them design stars on our classrooms Walk of Fame. I plan to decorate with a lot of red, black and gold.
