Hi hi! I'm one of the many TN lurkers that followed the herd and came over here, so I just wanted to finally come out of the woodwork and formally say hello!
I'm married just over a year, no kids, 2 kitties. We live in North Texas. I'm a Medical Technologist in a hospital laboratory, basically that means I do all the testing on your blood, etc.
My biggest fear is that I'll go blind or die before I finish reading everything on my TBR shelf! Currently I'm plodding through Chesapeake by James Michener and fluffing it up with the 50 Shades series. I love the classics, books that make me laugh and books that make me cry.
I hope to post more often now, and im happy to answer if y'all have any questions!
Hi and welcome! We have a really great group here, and I'm really glad to be a part of it. You'll love it
We're just starting a discussion on the first four (I think?) chapters of Wuthering Heights on Wednesday if you care to join us. The original post should be somewhere around here.
Thanks ladies! I saw the original post about Wuthering Heights, that was my first classic that I read after graduating high school (ya know, for fun!) and loved it! I havent read it since then so maybe I will give it a re-read so I can participate!
Re: Chesapeake It's okay. A little slow going right now, I think I'm on page 220ish(?). His stories are like history books, but actually interesting! He follows a pretty similar tack in every one I've read. For example, he talks a lot about the land itself (Hawaii = volcanoes, Chesapeake = bays/marshes), he talks about the people that first inhabited said land, he talks about religion spreading...
I definitely see how some people wouldn't like it, he can be very monotonous. But I feel that even though the characters themselves are fictional, the places are real and he's pretty accurate with the details about them. It takes me forever to finish his books though, because it's not the kind of thing I can read at work with tons of interruptions, or before bed because I'll fall asleep too soon!
