The lady that was going to watch DD this summer is refunding me my money! She hopes to be able to pay me back by the end of the month. So far I have one of the team girls at gymnastics watching DD on Monday. One of her gymnastics friends mom said she could watch DD so am going to have her watch her either Tuesday or Thursday. DH asked his boss to see if his teenage daughter was interested in one day and she is supposed to get back to us today. Things seem to be falling into place but I learned my lesson and plan on saving $$$ all winter to afford summer camps all summer long.

I can't even remember if I've updated or not, but we are not moving to Houston. My dh talked to one of the investors of the company his friend is creating and told him that they really aren't ready. They're still figuring things out and maybe in a year they'd be ready for him. DH said he could see this happening but I guess he was hoping for the best. I think his friend was a little too presumptuous about how things would turn out. I'm a little bummed but at the same time, I wasn't looking forward to fast tracking a move in one month to get the kids into a new school in time. DH is up for partner at his current firm so hopefully that happens this month.
We met with the surgeon and his slew of staff. Surgery is definitely happening. We have the option of doing it now vs. waiting a few years, but the risks of waiting plus the loss of neuroplasticity as she ages put everyone in favor of doing it now. Her original surgery had some difficulty because the tumor was about 1mm away from the motor cortex - this is regrowth of the same tumor, so it will be close. IF they get in there and their mapping determines that the tumor is in an eloquent area, they'll take any biopsy that they can safely take, and worst case scenario they glue her skull back together, have a shitty few months, but they get tissue and search for genetic markers and hope there's some form of gene therapy that works out for her before the tumor growth starts causing problems.
k3am, thank you for updating. It seems generally good that there is a game plan *and* a worst case scenario game plan. Is this more or less what you expected the doctors to say, or were there any surprises?
I know you will be able to handle this, but my heart still hurts that you and your family have to go through it again.
Spent the morning fishing and shopping. It us about 1000 degrees here. So off to the beach. Tomorrow is snorkeling at St Andrews. We also need to find a pair of football cleats while we are here because football conditioning starts bright and early Monday and we don't get back until Sunday night.
I took off Monday and Tuesday. I hope and pray they have done something to my house while we are gone and I can spend those two days painting.
Glad you have a plan k3am. I can't imagine what you're dealing with.
Baby is 3 weeks old. He just napped over an hour in the swing and I didn't know what to do with myself. Maybe I'll actually get some stuff done during my leave?
Still no dog poop. Last time was over 48 hours ago. Meanwhile I walked the dog leaving DD alone for 3 minutes. I literally walked like 4 houses down and back. Got back and she had invited a stranger to sit on the couch and make herself at home. (Door to door book salesman).
Hugs k3am, I've been thinking about you. I saw your update somewhere else about considering not going on vacation to save the time, I really hope you can take the trip. We are here for you!
k3am, I'm glad you were able to meet with the surgeon and get a few different options in place so quickly! I've been thinking of you all. Is there anything we can do to help make it easier for DD when she finds out?
Hugs k3am. I'm glad you have a game plan in place and it sounds like she will be in very capable hands.
DD1's last soccer game was last night. We signed her up for the next league starting in August but I'm looking forward to a month break of no commitments on work nights. I feel like we've been running all summer.
k3am , glad the doctors were able to decide a course of action so quickly. sdlaura , fingers crossed the independent napping continues! rere , hope that you are enjoying your vacation and come home to a finished house!
Update on DH wanting to tack a guys camping trip onto the end of an upcoming work trip. I took k3am 's suggestion of giving him a list of conditions if he wants to go on the trip and letting him take it or leave it. It's worked out well in that he has stopped nagging me, "Can I go?" and the impetus is on him. He's finally started working on one of the yard projects that is on my list of conditions. He still hasn't decided if he really wants to camp after all (he realized he's missing a lot of fun time with the kids).
akafred, we have an appointment on 7/20 for him to get scoped. (It was supposed to be sooner, but DH ended up on a work trip and I can't take him AND get DD from DC in time. And I don't want to take both of them).
Amusingly the doctor performing the procedure is Dr. Butt. Should have been a proctologist...
k3am, weird they are scoping. Are they doing his trachea or esophagus? With DD it was a swallow study. It was basically a live X ray videotaped with and without barium contrast.
A light hearted up date on DS's speech/articulation issues: H went and bought an Amazon Echo and it's spurring DS to really work on his articulation so he can talk to her. He has officially mastered "Alexa, turn on/off the dining room fan" and is working on "Alexa, tell bedtime story to me".
The downside is he's started asking her for attention, as in "Mommy! Alexa! Watch this!" and then sommersalting... FFFC - I wish there was an app for that.
akafred, the scope is because they're concerned about his adenoids. The laryngomalacia is just a possibility, but since they usually outgrow it by 6 months or so, they're not as concerned about it.
