I'm just about to finish The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. While I think overall the book was a lot better than the movie, I think the ending is really dragging in the book and the condensed version in the movie worked better. I'll probably head to the library this afternoon so I'll have to see what's available from my list.

I just finished The Kennedy Detail, about the Secret Service and their experiences leading up to the assassination. It was really interesting. I started The House at Tyneford, which has a blurb saying it's like Kate Morton's books crossed with Downton Abbey. It seems pretty good so far.
I read that like 10 years ago, and I literally remembered nothing about it, even when I saw the trailer. I had to Wikipedia it, and then it sort of came back to me. But I think that is the only book that has ever happened to me with.
I'm reading The Second Duchess, which is historical fiction/mystery. It's aiight. It's a library book, so I'm trying to finish it quickly.

I just finished Lover Mine (#8 in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series). I want to blow through #9 and #10 this weekend because those books are like crack, but I think I may make myself take a break from them for a while.
I have been putting off reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo for years now. DH and I watched the movie last weekend, so I may go ahead and read the book now. I wasn't sure if I could handle the violence, but I think now that I already know the plot I may be okay with reading it.

This sounds intriguing! I'm not familiar with Kate Morton, but I just read the Goodreads description of the book and it sounded good. Please report back if you like it!!

The violence is much more disturbing in the movie. Highlight for spoilers Lisbeth's rape isn't anywhere near as awful on paper and the murders don't come across as quite as shocking either.

Reading: The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Listening to: The Marriage Plot. I'm finding this really tough to listen to right now, though, because the characters' situation is really heartbreaking. I'm close to the end so I'll see it through, but it's definitely bringing me down.

Michael Shaara's For Love of the Game -- on which the movie of the same title was based. I'm not that far into it. I started it on Monday night, but I haven't been feeling good this week, so I have had little to no reading time. Hopefully this weekend will change that and I'll finish it.

I just downloaded American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I hope to start it later tonight once both kiddos are in bed.
I totally gave up on Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy. I couldn't get into it and felt like I had no idea what was going on. I kept getting the characters confused and the writing was full of spy terms that it might as well have been written in a foreign language. Needless to say, I was not enjoying it.
Have you read her Shanghi Girls and the sequel? I was not a fan of the first and I've been on the fence about reading the second and reviews are mixed. I do kind of want to know what happens though...

I read and enjoyed both. I used to live in CA, and the details about the immigrant experience in Shanghai Girls was interesting to me. My only complaint was the ending, but Dreams of Joy made up for it with a satisfying resolution for pretty much everyone (after a lot of angst along the way, lol). I also learned a lot about China under Mao.
I just finished Fifteen Seconds by Andrew Gross (great, hard to put down suspense although a little heavy on the exclamation points), am hallway through The Reckoning by Jane (?) Casey.
Just ordered David Levithan's Every Day and Dare Me by Megan Abbott, the latter for book club (my pick).
