My fucking crazy ass SIL was posting on Facebook yesterday about how she knows there's a burn ban here right now but she doesn't care and she's thinking she'll light up her burn pile anyway.

RAAAAAAAGE.
One of the fires here was someone's burn pile. During June-end of Sept I don't think your allowed to burn like that. But people don't care it's horrible.
People's houses are burning in some of the province. 😞
And thanx ladies. This year the fires are not as close to me as they have been in the past. But this is the first time since 2003 that the province has put us in a state of emergency. (In 2003 over 100 houses in my town were burned to the ground.)

How horrible! Hopefully you get some rain soon. Brush fires/wild land fires spread so quick when everything is dry. One of the few times I was actually terrified was at a wild land fire a few years ago. It literally sounds like a train coming at you and it's quick moving. I've actually been tossing the idea around for the last few years of expanding my wild land firefighting skills and taking the test to become a seasonal federal wild land firefighter.
katespade I hope her neighbors call the PD if she does. If the DEC shows up and she is burning when the burn ban is in effect, the fines are pretty high.
wineandcheese - I think my MIL (who lives with her) has talked her out of it. I'm keeping a close watch on her FB page, though. She'll definitely post about it if she follows through, and I won't hesitate to call her local PD to let them know. She's out of her GD mind.
Fuck. Came over here to say I'm thinking of you guys. I remember the 2003 fires - there was ash in the sky as far as Calgary. I had to drive through with a convoy escort to get to our family cabin in the Columbia valley.
It's super dry already on the island and the risk has now been moved to "high". I'm really hoping no one is stupid enough to defy the fire ban.

They put a province wide camp fire ban on today. 😞 We are also still flooded here and there are fires so close it's horrible!

Ugh, I'm so sorry. We're supposed to be going camping up island in a few weeks, but I was pretty sure there was going to be a camp fire ban by then anyway. Plus I reckon toddlers and camp fires don't really mix anyway. We're going to bring my dad's little butane torch for making s'mores.
