Are you buying anything? I just spent more time than I care to admit skimming the current and upcoming deals and I didn't find anything yet that I want!

Yeah, I feel like last year was better. So far I've gotten a $50 Panera gift card for $39.50 and two Green Toys jump ropes for $5.50 each. I've also done a lot of skimming and haven't really found anything else.
Nothing is really jumping out at me. I kind of want a Dot to put upstairs since we have the Echo downstairs, but don't really need it, so it likely won't happen.
I bought the bundle deal with the two kids kindle fire tablets with the kid proof cases last night for $150. I have 6 or 7 other things I'm watching but don't know if I will end up getting anything else.
Last year I needed big ticket items, so it was a great deal on a carseat and a JJB diaper bag (which was subsequently stolen the next month... assholes). This year, I have nothing big that we want/need, so I haven't really bothered looking. It's too much work.
You'll also notice that what Amazon marks as the "list price" and calculates % of savings off of isn't always the normal price they list it at, so the savings may not always be as good as they appear.

I've tried to explain the % savings to DH a million times but he still doesn't get it. He'll say that he saved 80% off of something, when in reality he probably could have bought it cheaper in a store.
supertrooper1, my sister is constantly telling me about the $90 shirt that she was able to buy for $10 at TJ Max... well no, it's not a $90 shirt, it's a $10 shirt.
In the same vein... I have gotten a Diono for $160 that normally sells for a lot more, a $400 sewing machine for $100, etc. So there are deals to be had, you just have to understand if it's truly a deal or not.
I tried. Nothing would arrive until August. So I paid "normal discounted" prices. I texted DD a pic and she told me she had already checked Walmart and Target and I could have saved $20 after paying shipping costs. I had three minutes to deal between calls so a $20 loss it is.
I actually did buy a kids kindle fire. I've been saying I'm going to for a long, long time. DD has been using my old kindle, but there's a reason I stopped using it. It will be nice for her to have her own while she's recovering.
k3am - my kids love their Kids Fires. I can't imagine not having access to the curated stuff (can't remember what that's called). It's awesome, especially the books.

I bought a lantern for camping, some microfiber beach towels, a fire proof glove for dh( camping need noted last time), a bag, some baby food pouches that I would have bought anyway, and two birthstone Alex and Ani bracelets that I've been eyeing for a while (one representing each ds), pajamas for ds (I swear he grew overnight), and a water bottle to replace one of mine that broke.
So nothing big but a lot of little stuff.
Oh I bought the 23&me kit. I'm super excited for that. I've been eyeing it for a long time (like since they started) and finally did it!

k3am. Not weird at all! Dh doesn't want his info "out there" and feels strongly about it. So I don't think we will do the boys either. I told him mine was probably already "out" from the AMA test when I was pregnant with ds2!
So far I've gotten two pairs of New Balance Sneakers for DS and 2 Rescue Bots for DS's birthday. I'm waiting on 2 books and a Thomas the Train and then I think I'm done. Oh and I got a great deal on GoJo for H to wash his hands with at home.
New balance running shoes for my H (he needed them and this saves a trip to the mall), some books, a couple of toys and a blender. Not as much stuff as last year
I didn't realize there were multiple options.. which do I want???
Did you end up getting one? I went to bed early and didnt see this. I did the health plus ancestry one for $99 (normally $199). I ended up buying two in case dh wants it after he sees how cool mine is. If not, I'll give it to one of my parents for Christmas.
No. The one I saw last night was just the ancestry one for $49, but I didn't think that was the one I wanted, so I decided to think about it/research a little more and fell asleep.
I'm okay with getting more sleep and not getting the kit.

I got: -2 jump ropes - one for each of the kids (the nice Green Toys ones) -organic gummy worms -a box of 24 bags (1 oz.) of Terra chips -a box for my essential oils -a $50 Panera gift card (for $39.50) - will most likely be a gift for my parents -a $50 Ruby Tuesday gift card (for $39.50) - will be a gift for my parents -the "my first fishbowl" toy that will be a Christmas gift for my new niece who is due to arrive in the next week or two -the race track with cars DS wanted for his birthday (Anki Overdrive starter set - it was $99 and usually fluctuates between $130-$150) -a fireproof/waterproof filing box -a drone with a camera for $50 - we thought it would be fun to take aerial pictures of our house, of the family farm, and while we're camping.
23 and me is super interesting. What information do they make publicly available?
Thinking it would be a cool gift for DH at some point. And I want it too.
Nothing is public (unless grouped in a large anonymous statistic) and they've won every case currently to not share data with law enforcement. Dh is paranoid that someday the data will be leaked to insurance or gov agencies then every will become a pre existing condition or method of discrimination based on DNA. It's possible, I guess, but not plausible in my mind.
sandandsea, I think an argument could be made that there was no chain of custody with the DNA sample, so any results can't be 100% guaranteed to be results of the individual listed.
I mean, I'm not a lawyer, but that would be my argument.
