Does anyone have any experience with Smith-Magenis? I have a kid next year who has SMS, and while I know her well, I don't know a lot about SMS itself, aside from what I can find online.
It sounds like it has a lot of overlapping behaviors with lower functioning ASD- sleep issues, meltdowns, repetitive behaviors and self injury. I wonder if it makes sense to reach out to the parents and ask for ideas around what has worked/not worked in the past.
Thanks for the response! It's a relatively newly-described condition that's not that common. This particular child is on the severe end of the range, and a lot of things that we do with kids who are ASD doesn't seem to work well with her.
I've worked with a couple kids who have it-one was 8-9 years ago when I worked in the schools and the other is a preschool age kiddo that I work with now. SMS is fairly rare so there's not a ton of info on it, unfortunately.
