We moved. This is huge for my family. Previously I had a 40 minute commute to work in the am while DH drove 40 min one way in tail end of rush hour traffic and back to drop DD off. After work I was driving from work 45 min to DD's school and then another 45 min to an hour back home. Or we were going somewhere near school to avoid traffic until rush hour was over which meant a lot of dinners out and getting home almost at bedtime. Now we live 10 min from school and that whole last bit is cut out. Of course it is summer so her camps are between work and school, but it is still easier to get to new house from camp than old house.
I was worried about DD and how she would handle moving. Her BFF (maybe to the point of obsession as she has no close school friends) lives in the old neighborhood. Luckily the other 2 kids she played with regularly moved in May. DD was telling me after we signed both the purchase and sale contract how she hated the new house and didn't want to move. But she actually got over that very fast, and said she really did like the new house, she was just scared to move and afraid she wouldn't be "used to it." Also there was a lot of understandable anxiety around things like whether our furniture would stay or go, down to each individual piece, whether the dog would come with us, the fish, etc. Now when she meets people she knows she tells them excitedly "I'm already used to the new house!" She has been very helpful around the house, more mature around conversations like "yes we can have macaroni and cheese for dinner but I am also cooking broccoli so there's a vegetable." And probably most importantly, she is going right to sleep at night. Previously she relied heavily on the baby monitor which she still insisted that we keep in her room. She wanted me to sing on it and stuff like that, not every night but at least a couple times a week. Refused to consider taking it down. When we moved she said she didn't want it. Then she said maybe we could try a few days (she did great). Now it is back in her room but we haven't used it at all. Hoping she'll let me pack it up. Or maybe we could put it in her closet or her bathroom so she has security. Honestly I don't even turn the handset on. I am too busy sitting outside with the dog because the one negative is we don't have a fence yet. Counting down until it is installed.
On Tuesday, DS and I went to get our cat shaved and DS was trying to comfort the cat to not be scared and not to make bad choices because the cat was hissing and growling.
Our cat threw up yesterday morning 3 times on the carpet and DS went outside and gave the cat a pine needle to eat to settle his stomach. DS had to tell everybody from the bus driver, to his teachers and his therapists that pepper was sick.
I made sweet and sour meatballs and DH (on video call) and I got DS to try three sweet and sour meatballs, a pineapple chunk and bell pepper piece. DS eats white rice with no issues and he did eat that. Each food was divided into sections. DS was quite upset that I mixed all of those foods together.

This reminds me of our Halloween party last year. Our neighbors brought their giant cat Albert, a Maine Coon, over with them. DS snuck off to grab our grouchy old Tabby so that she could "meet" Albert. Chaos ensues ("that was intense" one guest remarked after we were all stunned to silence over the high-pitched screeching and tumble of fur). DS, knowing he did a bad, starts shaking his finger at the raging ball of fur saying "You two stop that! Behave yourself!". Purely for my benefit because he knows I'm about to yell at him. I had to separate the two beasts; fortunately they were both declawed.

I am sorry I had to laugh because both cats were declawed. It may have not been funny at the moment.
We have a maine coon and he is like 20 pounds.
Our cat doesn't like any other animals. Our cat met MIL's dog again and he was beyond upset that a dog showed up to his birthday. The next day, the 4th of July, the cat let the dog have it and to this day, I have no idea what really went on when the cat hissed at the dog. I am thinking the cat scratched the dog because DS found a scratch on the dog's nose. MIL didn't think anything of it.
Of course, DS had to lecture the cat for making bad choices and not being friendly.
Our cat needs to get along with dogs. DH wants at least 2 German Shephards soon.

Hm ... he had been doing well overall this summer in terms of being flexible and rolling with the schedule changing so much week to week and day to day. This past week was rougher (though he was great at entertaining himself when Oliver was at soccer camp and I had to get a bunch of stuff done in my office) but really, he deserves props for doing well overall this summer.
