I don't normally post here, but I'm looking for some advice so I can help a friend.
She has lung cancer & is on maintenance chemo now. She said when she was going through her regular treatments, her face was so dry the only thing that even remotely helped was straight Vaseline. Her skin isn't quite so dry now, but she still needs a really good moisturizer. She's also looking for all other skincare/makeup products. She's always done her makeup beautifully, but is now trying to stick with natural/organic products as much as possible. She was recently approached by a Young Living oils person trying to sell her makeup and products, but she is afraid of the cost (& doesn't want to deal with high pressure sales). They're a single income family with 4 kids, so price is a big factor for them.
We have an Ulta in town, but no Sephora.
Any recommendations? I know so little about skincare (should probably hang out here more often!) but want to do something to help her.
I am not sure what she means by natural or organic exactly. I recommend the excellent performing products from The Ordinary. But if she doesn't know much or you don't, then it could be challenging to come up with a routine on your own.
For moisturizer specifically, I recommend rose hip oil rather than Vaseline or coconut oil. I use Radha brand which I can buy on amazon.
For a cleanser I love Neutrogena Naturals. If she wanted to add some extra bonus stuff, a good vitamin C product and nianicimide make me skin glow. I use the 12% AG vit C from The Ordinary. I use Manyo Galactomyces niacin, but TO gas a cheaper alternative for nianicimide.
I'm not exactly sure what she's looking for. And to be honest, I don't think she is, either. She doesn't necessarily need a complex routine, just the basics. Cleanser, moisturizer, and makeup. She wants things that are less likely to be filled with unnecessary products that aren't ideal for absorbing into the body. Basically, she's just wanting to limit the "extras" in her diet and anything that goes on her skin.
Maybe a Micellar water for a cleanser. The Garnier one with the blue cap is really good. Also for moisturizer CeraVe makes some great ones and I'd also second using an oil to help moisturize. I love Marula oil and I buy that on Amazon but the Ordinary also has one. Also she might like some moisturizing sheet masks as a treatment for days her skin is feeling really dry. Ulta has a bunch but they're a better deal on Amazon I believe.
As for more natural makeup I think Physicians Formula is supposed to be for more sensitive skin. Their butter bronzer and CC cream are great. Plus they have a full range of products for whatever she's looking for.
Liz Earle focuses on quality, safe ingredients. I particularly love their hot cloth cleanser; it has won several awards.
For toning, it's hard to beat a simple rose water spray. There are several organic brands to be found on the cheap - search Amazon, ulta or even TJ maxx.
I've enjoyed natural / organic products from honest beauty (makeup and skincare), andalou (skincare), derma e (skincare), acure organics (skincare), and RMS (makeup).
Sephora and ulta now have search functions for specific ingredients and special natural beauty sections. It's never been easier to shop consciously!
The entire beauty aisle at Whole Foods. Not all of it is $$$$$$.
A lot of Korean brands use minimal ingredients - Nature Republic, Innisfree, Skin Food immediately come to mind. All easily accessible via Amazon and/or Ulta.
100% Pure has skincare and makeup. Physician's Formula Organic Wear (mascara is supposed to be awesome).

Inexpensive is where you're going to run into issues.
Beauty Counter is popular but I'm not a huge fan
I do love Jane Iredale products. A lot. Physicans formula has organic BB cream, mascara and other products now. So that's drug store ! Some targets sell Pacifica products but I can't attest to the quality.
I love JI, RMS, and W3LL people. W3LL is sold at some targets now, but they also sell minis on line to try ! I've used their foundation, eye shadows (my fav), mascara etc. it's worth a try.
