We are having wine at my SIL's baby shower, which will be held at a restaurant over lunch. We figured two glasses...one upon arrival and a second pour, if desired, during lunch. It's going to be a long shower, like 3 hours. There was a bit of planning tension about this b/c SIL's mom has "never had wine at a baby shower." I don't think I've ever NOT had wine (or some kind of drink). Is this a weird regional thing or something?
i would surprised to see alcohol? but not pearly clutch or anything...like a glass or two sounds perfectly reasonable, but i just don't think I've ever attended a baby shower with alcohol?
I said I'd be surprised if there was NOT alcohol, mostly because it's being held at a restaurant. Since it's at a restaurant, I'd assume wine would be served, because it's something that would normally be available in a restaurant setting.
For a shower held at a home/hall/etc., I'd expect it could go either way, but would appreciate having the option. Every shower I've ever been to has had either wine or an alcoholic punch option.
Interesting! I'm surprised by the dry showers b/c seriously, I don't think I've ever been to one. It's not generational, but I'm thinking perhaps it's also somewhat religiously based??? Like, not in actual religion, but in the culture of the religion as passed down via traditions. As a totally general observation, most people around here tend to be Catholic or Lutheran in heritage even if not practicing. The Catholic families (mine included) tend to have more alcohol. I hope that's not offensive and maybe that is only true around here, but it does seem true in this area.
So I changed my vote. Haha. Originally I said I would be surprised because I didn't remember alcohol at a baby shower but then i thought about it and I am sure there has been champagne punches and mimosas at a few baby showers I have been too. Many were brunch style.

I've had both. My shower had mimosas. I've hosted three showers and two had booze. The third was a tea at a tea house and we didn't. I've only ever been to one "play games made of baby stuff" type shower, so I'll throw out the word regional. Here they tend to be brunches/lunches/regular parties with some baby presents.

I'm Lutheran and from NJ, but I've also been to showers in NY and here in NC. I've never been to a shower that had alcohol. I have nothing against it, but I wouldn't expect it either.

My BfFs are both Catholic and didnt serve alcohol at my shower (and none at theirs either). My whole family besides me is Catholic and alcohol is common at cookouts/graduation parties/etc but never at baby showers or for parties for small kids. Maybe its more generational/regional??
I live in WI. Every event everywhere has alcohol. I'm from IL and had never been to a kids party or shower with alcohol until I moved here. People would totally judge you here if it was a dry shower. It's a regional thing I think.
