Ugh. I have a great opportunity to attend a conference for work in October in Vegas, but it is Fall Break week at DD's school and my H works second shift and his coworker already asked for the week off. I have no family in the area who could watch her after camp, and my MIL is still recovering from leg surgery. (As an aside, she has asked us to travel with her for Fall Break so I would have to turn that down to go to the convention). Feel free to offer other suggestions, but I think the only way for me to go to Vegas is to take DD. The convention is at Mandalay Bay.
Is that even possible? Are there kids clubs or camps that can watch kids from like 7-5 during normal convention hours?
By the way I realize this has about a 0.002% chance of happening, but figured I would ask. Also there is no pressure to go. If I don't go, it won't affect my career. I just want the opportunity.
I met a friend in Vegas for a weekend and we brought our 4-year-old daughters. We stayed off the strip at Green Valley Ranch and had fun at the pools, arcade, and shopping center next door. There was a kids club there but we didn't use it. Several of the hotels do have kids clubs, but the one there didn't open till noon. I'd check into whether there's one at Mandalay Bay.
can you find a sitter to stay with her? Someone you can get to know now for fall? I'd use a sitter for this sort of issue. If that doesn't work can you ask 2-3 friends to help out for one week?

Have you been to this convention before? Even though it technically ends at 5 each day, is there a chance you'd be expected to hang out with colleagues or other attendees in the evenings? It could be awkward for you to beg off to meet up with your daughter if there are events everyone else is attending.
The two conference that I have gone to out of state my mom drove in to watch the kids. Maybe because I had two and it would be more of a hassle than one kid, but I probably wouldn't take them. I would look and see if any hotels have kids clubs. I never hang out with people after hours at conference, so I wouldn't worry too much about that unless there is something major that you have to attend.
I've never been to this (or any) convention before. There is a chance, as there are some after parties, but the schedule shows the formal end being at 5pm. My coworker's would be ok.
I can't get a sitter. They would have to pick DD up from camp and sit with her at home until after 10pm. I can't find a reliable sitter for one night, def not a week.
I don't know if Fall Break is a common thing (not sure we have it here), but can you check with the YMCA in Vegas? Sometimes they have camps during school holidays and if their local break coincides with yours you may be in luck.
I still don't think I would do it, but I'm trying to think outside of the box . . .
