Our Samsung Fridge is frozen again. We're just getting a new fridge now b/c it keeps breaking in the same way over and over. Currently our fridge has french doors and a water and ice dispenser in the door. It's stainless. I like everything about it except that it quits working often. If I could change one thing, I might get a counter depth one b/c I'm really short and can't reach the back without standing on a step stool.
I like having a water and ice dispenser in the door, but I'm wondering if we should just go simpler to have fewer things that break?
Anyway - who has a fridge they love that they've never had to get fixed?

We have a Kenmore Elite with French doors, freezer on the bottom, and an ice/water dispenser in the door. We haven't had it quite a year yet, but we love it. It's in the Kenmore Elite Active finish, which looks like stainless but doesn't show the fingerprints like our other stainless appliances. It also has the "Grab-N-Go" door which is nice. DS can't quite reach the button for that door, but it is nice for us to be able to get a few things out without opening the whole fridge. The bottom freezer will slide out, or the door will fold down so you can just grab something quickly. I'm not sure if this is our model number, but it's like this one: www.sears.com/kenmore-elite-73165-28.5-cu-ft-french-door/p-04673165000P
mustardseed2007, I've heard nothing but horror stories about Samsung appliances, including our own saga with a terrible washer. Good luck finding a fridge! We found the best service and prices at Sears for appliances we've needed, but haven't gotten a fridge yet.
It had overall good reviews every where we looked, and we've been happy with it, especially with the capacity. I'm constantly amazed by how much food we manage to cram in there.
I believe this is it. We just got it in spring when we listed the house, but we LOVE it! It IS tall though, so it may be too big. It has an ice maker tall enough for bottles, and 2 freezer drawers so you can have an everyday section and a long term storage option or whatever you want. Even so, DD can reach everything she really needs to. We have yet to come close to filling it.
I clicked on this to specifically warn against Samsung, but I see you have that covered. If we put a water filter in, the water lines freeze and flood our kitchen and den. It's lovely.

Another vote for Kenmore. Ours is an 11 year old side by side and still going strong. (Knock on wood.) The only repair I've ever had to do was replace the ice maker. I did it myself by watching a YouTube video and ordering the part for $90 off amazon.

I was going to come in here and tell you not to get a Samsung but I guess it's too late. Ours hasn't broken (FX) but the ice dispenser is crap. Shoots ice everywhere. But we've only had it for a year or less so I'm stuck until it breaks.
We have a Jenair French door that we're happy with. When we were looking at replacing our small fridge the guy at the store told us to steer clear of lg and Samsung as they seem to need the most repairs.

My sister and I both have the same Whirlpool as sudokufan. Mine is about 1.5 years and sister's is about 3 years old. Neither of us have had any problems.

We also have a Jenair french door, counter depth. I like the counter depth mostly, but it can be a pain if you are having a party and need lots of fridge space. We have had ours for 6 years with no issue. We have the water dispenser inside the fridge which I love.

I have a Leibherr. I really love it. Had a bit of a learning curve though -- there is a drain hole in the fridge for excess condensation to drain out, that needs cleaning from time to time. If it doesn't get cleaned out, condensation drips down to the freezer, interferes with the gasket and causes icicles to form. Once I figured that it I was able to keep it in good working order.
Only other problem I had was that the door handle broke off at the four year mark. Once I was able to track down a replacement part, it was easy to fix myself.
mustardseed2007, I'm currently at my parents and they have a Frigidaire counter depth fridge. The different in inside cubic feet is evident. I'm sure it's fine for just the two of them but it's packed with additional food they have on hand to feed me and my progeny.
I have no recommendations but I wanted to share my experience. We have a samsung french door and had to get the ice maker repaired a few months ago (owned it 2 years now). It would freeze and stop making ice. When we had it fixed the repairman said its common on all french door fridges because they have moved the ice maker to the fridge instead of the freezer. So its not just a samsung thing, it's all french door fridge issues. He did say it happens more on the LG models.
