I can't wear lipstick. I've tried multiple brands, including some hypoallergenic options, but they make me break out. I do have some allergies, including some to artificial dyes, so I'm guessing the dye in lipsticks is the culprit.
DH and I are going on vacation this week, and I'd like to step it up from my standard Vaseline (lol) lip coverage, but am not sure what to go with. Can I get away with wearing clear gloss? Or is shiny not "in" right now?

I see nothing wrong with clear glosses! I know matte is in, but I still prefer a gloss. Vaseline has some tinted lip products, but if dye is the issue for you they may not work either. Not sure I'd risk a reaction on vacation.

How about lip oils? I just got a Lancome Juicy Shaker to try to change things up a bit. I love it. My lips are just glossy enough, not sticky and the color kind of stains the lips a bit. Maybe that would be an option?
You could definitely do a clear gloss, but if the dye is what trips you up you could try these from 100% pure that use fruit extracts for their pigment. I've eyeballed these for a while but haven't tried them myself... www.100percentpure.com/collections/lips
