There is a famous hotdog joint about 3 miles from my house. It's in a rough area, & some of my favorite memories are of ducking in the car while my dad ran in to get us "around the world" style dogs. Team Hotdog. ( but cut up appropriately until ds is older.)
They serve them at her daycare. About every two weeks they have pigs in a blanket, corn dogs or hotdogs. We had a cookout and made hotdogs and we gave it o her (11.5 mo ths) and she didn't eat it. We buy the less suspect hotdogs.we only eat them, maybe, four times a year, if that.

My kids have loved hot dogs since they were little and we always have some in the freezer. I do buy organic, nitrate/nitrite free turkey dogs most of the time to keep them little healthier and the girls can only have one per meal; if they're still hungry they just bulk up on the sides. But IMO as long as they're not a daily thing (or even weekly for us...I put them on the menu every other week or so), and I'm serving them with healthy side dishes rather than french fries, I don't see a problem.
When they were under 2, I cut them into small pieces and the bun was served separately. They're 6 and almost 9 now, so I can just toss them in the bun (for #1) or on the plate (for #2).
Dd has only had them once, but she clearly thought that they were the best things ever. I was kind it horrified, but whatever. she doesn't eat them daily.
I don't know I judged myself immediately for putting it down hence the ""
I picked "other." I have offered my 4 year old DD hot dogs on many occasions, but she refuses to try them (she's an extremely picky eater). Yes, that would be a "no" answer, but it's not because I won't let her eat them.
I don't care if DS has one every now and then, but he has never eaten one yet. We don't eat them at home, so who knows how long it will be before he actually tastes one.
DH does love sausages and I make them occasionally at home. However, again, DS hasn't had one yet.
