Is anyone signing their girl up this year? I didn't realize it started in kindergarten, and I'm thinking about it. I can't find much information online about time commitment or what they do that young so does anyone know?

I've considered it but will probably hold off. We also looked into 4H. I think the time commitment varies among troops. My niece was in a troop that only met once a month but I've heard some troops meet more often.
I didn't know they started so young. We will def sign C up. I wish there was a non-boy scouts option for Ari. I have no desire to have him join such a gross organization.

Edie's Daisy troop met every other Thursday during the school year. There were a few other events, but not many. The leader was also new, so she was also learning.

Both girls are signed up. Ashlynn is "graduating" into Brownies and Chloe is going to be a Daisy. They have their welcome meeting this upcoming Monday. They will get their new vests and meet their troop leader.
We signed Ashlynn up late last year because of our move. But it was great! They did different activities around the community, toured the fire station and police station. Also, of course, sold the cookies. Both girls are VERY excited to start.
I don't belong here, but I can tell you about scouts. It's totally up to the troop. The troops are generally just from one grade at one school, so kindergarten Daisy troops are always new troops with new leaders. The troop decides where to meet, how often, and for how long. 2x a month is pretty normal, but so are weekly meetings. Troops have a lot of independence, so you can decide what events you go to as long as you meet safety standards.
The girls meet and work on petals which are like badges. Mine made bird feeders from milk cartons, grew flowers, and did a lot of little crafts. They also sell cookies and can go on whatever field trips the troop sets up - zoo, animal shelter, local parks, ice cream shops, heck we've even taken a field trip to the grocery store and they pet a lobster.
The local community/service unit may also set up activities which are completely optional, things like father daughter dances, camping, game nights, whatever they come up with.
Man, I don't know. I think I'm kind of a bad mom bc that kind of commitment just doesn't seem appealing to me right now. Lol. Idk. I'll probably look into it, but I kind of doubt we have a troop here and I'm definitely not driving 30 minutes to do it.
Meetings are drop off lol. Or at least that's what I have seen around here in my limited research. I won't do it if there isn't a troop in our town either, there's no way to check though it looks like you sign up and they contact you about available troops.
ETA: if you just fill out the first info page you can search for local troops with openings. Looks like all the ones near me meet every other week for 1 hour.

Ugh me too about H. I looked at navagators, it's another Boy Scout like option but progressive. There's a bunch in my state but none near us but you might check to see if there's any local to you.
Just bumping it because I finally got around to getting A in a troop. They meet twice a month for an hour. I'm mainly looking forward to the cookies lol!

I may be defensive, but DS is in Cub Scouts and loves it. He's learned a lot and I've been pretty happy with it.
DD has not yet expressed an interest in Girl Scouts, and I'm not going to push it. It's probably changed in the past 35 years, but I hated it when I was in it. If she does express an interest, I will still wholeheartedly support it though. Just like dance class
I just got O in a troop today! There hasn't been a spot but one finally opened up and thankfully the placement coordinator had her at the top of her list. She doesn't yet know it's drop off; she's not going to be thrilled about that.
We had out first meeting this week and I'm regretting it already. Tuesday's H doesn't get home until 9pm, so E has to come to scouts with us. And all of this stuff is on days where he is busy. We're doing a weekend camping thing at the end of October! But, she loves it already, and the cooking skills and such will be great. I just need to suck it up

Can you just drop her off? Maybe if you get to know another mom you could carpool?
I plan on it soon. We live farther away so carpool isn't really an option, but we'll survive. It's every other week.

Does anyone know if I can have both my kids in the same troop? Like wait until R starts kindergarten and then put them both in together (V will be 2nd grade but she's so tiny I think she would fit right in). That would be way easier for me.
We won't be doing scouts. I'm trying to get Katelyn in a 4H horse club but most start at 6. She's been riding for 1.5 years and is in a horse riding competition next month as is Kalvin. I can't sign him up without her because horses are her thing.

Daisies ends at 1st grade, so if they are in K & 1st, they could be in the same troop. But K & 2nd would be two different troops.

You might be able to find a troop that does joint groups. I know around here there is at least one troop where they have the K-3rd in the same group and then 4-7th (I believe) in the other group. Otherwise you could just have them join the same troop but be in different age groups. The troop A just joined seems to combine some events and bigger meetings between the age groups. V might want to be in her own group as she gets older too, in kindergarten they'd never notice but she might notice by 2nd grade.
Her first day of daisies is tomorrow! They asked all the parent to stay. I hope it's okay I show up with Claire as my H is working a 24. Guess we will find out!

I've only had experience with two troops, but everyone brings siblings. It's so hectic.

Oh good! I'm figuring the welcome email didn't say no siblings so I she's coming along. I imagine the siblings add a bit of chaos to the troops, hopefully this is the only time she has to tag along.

In our council, siblings are not allowed to attend any events aside from that first day for insurance reasons. Our troops meet at a small school that's attached to a Church. Parents are welcome to stay with siblings, but they have to stay in that room.
But let's be honest....everyone goes to Target during meetings
