I did it! I cut off 4 inches of hair and colored it chocolate brown with a bit of caramel peeking through. The caramel is my natural color. I love it! Bonus: I washed it this morning, scrunched it with product, half dried it, and it looks great. Even today when it's rainy! I have hair that can actually be wash and go now.
We spent 2.5 hours last night with the builder going over our punch list of things to get fixed before we close in 2 weeks. Most of that time was spent in drywall. Despite ordering work to be done the dry wall guys and painters haven't been back to fix their stuff after the initial paint. The builder was furious when we started and he realized we hadn't been overly dramatic about how bad the walls were.
I'm at the hospital right now getting ds' growth hormone stimulation test. He's being such a champ. It involves an iv, meds and a bunch of blood draws. But so far no tears, no complaints even. He's asleep now. If it turns out he is low on growth hormones then our next steps are clear. If not...they are less so, I guess. Not sure what to hope for other then a smooth testing procedure. Also, he was making me watch Elmo in grouch land, which is the trippiest movie I've seen in a long while.
I had an on-site interview yesterday. An exhausting marathon of 6 hour long interviews. But I really liked the company and team. It's exactly what I've been saying I want to do for my next step. There would still be another round to meet with the head of HR and the CEO and/or president.
Resort hunt update: I'm getting desperate for resort ideas for this work trip. Just found a place that has daily parties, "water nymphs" to serve you, and a lingerie fashion show on site! Totally appropriate for a work incentive trip. LOL
I had no sitters confirmed Sunday night and had the expectation of DD being with me at work all week. Sitters magically got back to me and I only had to bring her to work on Monday. Plus I already have DD in either camp or sitters lined up and confirmed for the next two weeks!
No luck on before/after care for school which starts 9/5. I have multiple phone calls into the only place that does before and after for our school and I can't get them to call me back. I have a couple other places as a possible but they only do after school.

mommyatty, I love your hair! And I'm jealous of how you look without makeup on.
I'm super excited about taking possession of our new house and redecorating. We used a decorator for our old house, it was the best money I spent and it looked so nice, then the kids came along and took over, so our chic modern home turned into scattered toys clutter-land. DH and I lamented that frequently but didn't know what to do about it. But now with a new house, DH and I have decided to hire a decorator again to help with storage solutions for the kids' stuff so that our new house can look nice again. And the house itself is quite a bit bigger, so we should have more room. I've been pinning lots of stuff on Pinterest and am super excited. Also anxious about the amount of money we'd have to spend. But DH has agreed to do a lot of stuff himself, so hopefully it won't be too bad.
My update, isn't really an update, but more of a new piece of info. I found out today through the grapevine (aka my work bestie, aka my only friend at work), that I'm going to be changing teams next week. I have a very "fluffy" role supporting part of our IT department, which on paper, kind of sounds like complete bullshit. Basically, I help PMs and IT SMEs understand their finances. Anyway, the CIO is basically sweeping me out of my current team, and pulling me onto his extended team, and my role will evolve into doing similar tasks, but for a wider base (ie- all of IT). He is doing this to keep my job safe, because one day, someone is going to realize I belong in the Finance department. But I've been there. And I don't ever ever want to go back!
Maybe I'll know more by next Thursday. I'm hoping my TWERK will be about my huge promotion and fatty raise. But I'm thinking these will not come until next year. Boo.

Buyers for our agency have been contacted, so now we wait. Hopefully they get back to us quickly. My brother emailed them since we are still in the keying window for our busy season and they probably aren't done like we are.
House front: DH went back to being happy staying at our current house. The update for this next week will probably go back to him not being okay with it lol.

traveltheworld if you don't mind (and if you do, feel free to say so and don't share) how much does a designer cost? I'd love to do that and have budgeted money for the next year or so to spend on decorating our whole house. I'm guessing a designer would blow my budget but am still interested to hear about this.
Inspired by your responses to my FFFC a few weeks ago, I applied for a new life insurance policy. My medical exam is tomorrow and my exercise & eating over the last week or so has been a ridiculous attempt to "cram" for it.
My new hire showed up to his first day of work 8/1 and every day since. I haven't heard how he's doing yet, but as of 10 minutes ago he broke the employment tenure record set by the last person in this position. So that's good.
DS loves his "camp". He was invited to a birthday party, but was crushed to find out we will be out of town when it occurs. I have my mostly happy boy back - it's amazing how different his personality is away from his previous school. We noticed on vaca and he only went back for 2.5 days after. I wish we would have pulled him sooner. I feel like I failed him.
TFFC: I am dreading activities for DS - soccer practice is outside and we have to stay (because he's 5) - and I am sure I will have conflicts with the girls' sports and activities. I dread having to ask other parents to take him to the bathroom so I can go to a game or drop off or something. This will be the first year that two of them may have weeknight games, plus practices. I'm trying not to have a panic attack. DH got extended in TN through the end of the year. So it's all me.
So far today, I have shampooed all the carpets and couches in the house, ran, and paid book fees and lunch for both kids. I'm tired. At least the house is back in order.
Ds starts high school next week! I'm not freaking out yet. Wait for it, it's coming. Ds seems pretty laid back. Dd is freaking out about the start of school, but she is not changing schools. I dread high school with her.

It totally depends on what you are looking for - whether you want someone to do the whole thing (come up with design concepts, pick materials, source materials, etc.) or whether you just want help with certain parts of it. What we did last time was this: I showed the designer stuff that I've pinned over the years on Pinterest, talked about our general desires, and her team came up with design concepts for every room in the house (about 2,000 square feet) and we chatted and modified them until we were happy with the final designs. Her design concepts came with a layout of all the furniture, what all the different pieces should look like (down to placement of books on our bookcases, where to hang picture frames), and a list of her preferred vendors. Then we took those plans ourselves and tried to find stuff that matched. We didn't tear down walls or redesign the space, just decorated it. She did help us source a few things that we couldn't otherwise find, but mostly, once the design concept phase was over, we were on our own. The advantage was that the whole house had a more unified look even though it took us several years to get all the pieces in place. I vaguely recall that it didn't cost too much - maybe $3,000 - $5,000?
We are planning to do the same thing this time around. I haven't nailed it down to which designer yet, but the two that I've talked to are charging around $175 - $250 per hour. I think I'd actually need less help this time around, so I'm budgeting approximately the same amount. Once you pay for the initial consult, the designer should be able to give you an idea of how much the whole thing would cost.
DH heard back from his old company. An offer would be months away, and they are interviewing other candidates (he'd been led to believe that they wouldn't, since he's actually doing all of the work right now and the transition would be very easy). We think that an internal guy put his hat in the ring, but every time he's asked a question by his manager about a project, he needs to get the answer from DH.
DH's current boss, the one that screwed him, announced today that he's bringing another guy on board. That's a huge change for a 5-person company.
So, we are moving forward with the new company. DH signed all the legal docs today, he's planning to resign tomorrow. He will take his entire book of business with him. No paycheck for a month will hurt, but we are using the money we'd allocated toward buying into the company to fund things for a little while. I will do marketing and billing, possibly some writing. I will be able to build up my portfolio and do some consulting with the experience.
If his old company comes through with an offer, we will re-evaluate.
On the sly, I'm dusting off my CV and will start applying for stuff. I don't like the instability.

Oh! DS starts preschool on Monday. If anyone remembers the chaos that was tee ball season, go ahead and laugh with me that 2 teammates are in his class. There's also a little girl whose mom I went to HS with and then a set of wild and hilarious twins. The teacher is the director so she either drew the short straw this year or she's best qualified to handle this crazy bunch lol.
