And I would be more than livid if I paid $400 for a dress to wear to a specific event and the owner of the store was all, lol tough titties. I totally get why this is a 'five on your side'-style interest story.

I would be pissed too because of the money thing. These people definitely need refunds and the store needs to be shamed. They're completely in the right for complaining about it to the local media.
Still, I just can't stop myself from side-eyeing spending $400 on a prom dress. That's close to what my wedding dress cost.
There are girls here who spend a lot more than that on their gowns. then add in shoes, jewelry, make-up, hair, and nails. They also pay for the tickets and limos. It is close to $1000 when all is said and done for some. This unfortunately is the norm around here in NJ.
I would be pissed about not getting what I paid for, but seriously $400?? I also side eye special ordering something for prom, but that's just me. I bought mine off the rack at Filene's for $150.

I bought mine at a garage sale for all of $15. Loved it and got lots of compliments on it. The only dress I've only spent over $100 on was a maid of honor dress for my best friends wedding. It blows my mind what people spend though
These familes seem to have unlimited money --- when the kid next door was on his way to the prom, he did a "prom proposal" -- that put him out $500 bucks.
Sure, it's the principle of the thing. 5 on your side, Shame On You or whoever you need to call; time is money.

“I fell in love with that dress,” the Pequannock High School senior said, adding that the fretting over the prom gown had driven her to tears and given her acne. |“I honestly was considering not going for a while.”
This did not give her acne. Being a teenager gave her acne.
Also, the store owner sounds like my crazyass former boss who would totally duck any sort of work and then then claim a big, dramatic personal tragedy when the shit his the fan, crying about how she was just a po' simple, country girl doin' her best in this hard, hard world.
