My trainer and her mom (basically my second riding coach and knower of all things in horse care) are recommending I sell Larry once he's back to normal activity levels. They're worried that if he's getting injured now, he won't hold up for the long term. I mean, I kind of get it - he's not tiny, but he's not a big horse, and I'm certainly tall and not tiny. And on top of that, we're jumping 2'6 with (former) plans to move up to 3'. I loooooove him, but I'd feel terrible if I made him sore or reinsured him during a ride. But then again, chances are that he hurt himself in a freak accident in his field, so it could be not at all related to his work load and may never bother him again. I'm alternating between being all "Nope!" and window shopping for pretty horses. Ugh.
chalupa , what?? Do they really think all of the jumping is what's causing his lameness? Have you talked to the vet?
Vet comes back tomorrow for the recheck and the probable OK to start riding again. He's doing well, but that's their point - he's 12, which is the preferable age for parents looking for a horse for their kid who just outgrew a pony. He's never going to be worth as much as he is right now, so even if we keep popping around our current competition levels, *if* he reinjures himself later, I'm going to have a cripple. It might be better for him to take 100lbs of rider off his back and get him in the hands of someone whose dream is to work up to the height he's currently jumping. I don't really think his jumping caused the issue at all, but if I separate the facts from emotions, I know they're both right. I don't think the jumping caused his lameness at all - he went out to turnout fine, and came in the next morning lame, so he most likely damaged himself playing in the field. But the repeated jumping with an adult on him probably won't be kind to a leg with rehabbed tendon for the long term.
So, since none of us have a crystal ball, I'm sitting here trying to figure out if I keep him, and what I'll do if he can only trail ride in a few years, or if I sell him now and pray he lands with a little girl who'll adore him. It feels pretty crappy
Or he could be fine and never have another sore day again. But again - no crystal ball SaveSave
My new Rover pup is really super cute, but dang if she doesn't pull like crazy. I'm going to have to bust out my running leash so I can use my body weight to control her.
Tonight I'm going to a new friend's bday party. She was an upstairs neighbor who moved away. I am so tired and want to sit on the couch, but I'm going to get myself together to go. What is a good universal gift for a 40th birthday? I don't think she drinks. I need to figure out something though in the next hour to pick up on my lunch break.

chalupa, that's a rough decision to have to make. doglove, gift card to a massage place or spa? Some fancy chocolate? Gift basket with artisan dried pasta + fancy pasta sauce + bruschetta mix?
We came home last night to SS having cleaned the house. He's a good kid. And then I felt bad, because he took the time to straighten the half dozen pairs of my shoes that were lying in a pile by the door from me always haphazardly kicking them off when I get home....

I'm not going to complain but I will say that I cannot wait for his day to be over.
I'm proud of my nephew. He's 20 and decided not to go back to school, because 1) he wasn't doing that well and 2) he has no idea what he wants to do in life. My friend mentioned they were having difficulty hiring where she works as it's manual labor and shift work. I told my nephew about it, he applied and got the job! I'm taking him out tonight to go celebrate.
It's been grey and rainy hear all week and it's putting me in a bad mood. I'm in the office but in jeans, a t-shirt, and a ball cap. Lazy, party of one.
I just got invited to a work happy hour that is right by my house so I really have no reason not to go but I'm not sure I feel like it. If it were someplace more casual I wouldn't hesitate but I'm not sure I'm really dressed for the place we're going. Meh, I may just say screw it and go.
Have to travel to Florida tomorrow and it'll be the first time I've been on a plane in more than 2 weeks. It feels like it's been FOREVER.
bullygirl979 I wish I had a money tree to support multiple horses! And I'm not crazy enough to have bought a 4 year old Morgan - they're mentally babies until at least 8. He's 15.2

chalupa, hahaha. I had faith in you Yeah...that is a tough call. I don't think selling him is a sh*tty decision on your part, if that is the route you want to take. While you are looking out for yourself, you're also looking out for him, kwim? If you didn't care about him, you wouldn't worry about him getting hurt. He sounds like he would be a nice horse for a younger rider, and you could always take your time to ensure it's a good fit.
Oh man chalupa that's a tough choice. I wish I could give some input but I know nothing about it besides loving horses. I guess a lot of it depends on what you want, if you want to keep jumping and showing and building up to taller jumps, or if you would be okay with the plans changing to Larry being more of a trail horse in the future for you.
I'm here! I've gotten some good work done over the past couple of days. So far today I'm relaxing with coffee and watching trash TV while doing some cleaning. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to a coffee shop again today to do more work or if I'm giving myself a day off from it.
Tommorow I'm going to PT! They had a couple of cancellations for this week so I was able to get in with him. It also turns out that my insurance approved 6 sessions, not 4, and the scheduler reassured me that if he thinks I need more sessions, he can request more.
I fit into a pair of jeans I haven't worn in quite some time...but the scale says I'm magically 10lbs heavier than I was a couple weeks ago. What gives, body? I'm definitely getting a lot more definition through my arms and abs thanks to my new yoga studio. But let's not pretend I suddenly packed on 10lbs of muscle, lol.

As you exercise and lose weight, eventually the body redistributes the fat cells. At least that's how it was explained to me. I'm hovering at the same number on the scale and my smaller jeans and shorts are fitting better. High five to smaller pants.
I'm growing older but not up. My metabolic rate is pleasantly stuck, let the winds of time blow over my head. I'd rather die while I'm living than live while I'm dead.

You could also be retaining more water weight to help repair your muscles. I know this typically happens to me for the first 6-8 weeks of a new workout regime.

My scale has gone down the past week, but my waist size has not, so unfortunately, it's probably the scale lying to me. Boo!
On that note, please vote on which two out of four appetizers below that you would like to have when you get to a party (dinner a couple hours later is a build-your-own nacho bar, dessert is probably tres leches cake):
-Grilled shrimp and chipotle cocktail sauce -Fruit/melon skewers with lime zest and chili powder -Chili lime spiced nuts -Stuffed mini bell peppers (probably stuffed with cheese)

I think the stuffed peppers may be heavy, especially if you are doing nachos and cake. I would like fruit skewers and nuts, but that is because I don't like shrimp. LOL.
I am starting to get a lot of responses for interviews. Great news! I also have had a lot of medical appointments which results in my boss exhibiting awful reactions. Long story short, I've filled a complaint. Lots of stress but hopefully one of these jobs pans out.
