I have SO MUCH WORK that I can't get ahead of it. There's got to be a year's worth backed up. All week long, all we do in my department is "put out fires", reacting to emergency after emergency, so the so-called day-to-day stuff never gets done. I bring home work pretty much every day, but I have housework waiting for me when I get home too.
I am not able to respond promptly to ANYTHING or anyone. The work piles up so fast, I drop the ball regularly, not because I'm lazy or disengaged, but because it gets buried.
Every month I am introduced to another responsibility. My boss is excited about a new project I'll be in charge of: miles and miles of new streetscape plans. Something I would LOVE to be in charge of, if I weren't already so underwater and drowning in duties.
Today I worked 2 hours overtime because I had to go to a training class to learn how to do MORE stuff.
The job is very interesting and enjoyable, I am certainly qualified. I could do it very well, if I could clone myself 3 or 4 times!

Oh treedimensional, that sounds awful. Even a job you love will get tedious if you're drowning in it. Are they making plans to hire additional staff to help you?

My spouse wanted to go away this weekend but I have to transplant 3 trees, create an 83 tree mini-inventory, and compile 2 contractor service procurement lists valued at $50k ea. (without going over).
