I'm moving and the new house has tiny little closets in the bedrooms and no where else (no coat closet). The master bedroom is pretty small too so I'll only have space for a small 5 drawer dresser.
I'm already planning on a closet organizer system. I'm also going to get a few under bed storage containers for out of season clothes. I could possibly get an armoire and put it in the living room but that seems a little awkward.

I love that set up you have! I think I might actually be able to do that right in the entry way that we will be using (not the front door). It looks so clean and functional!
Yeah, I have a basement. It's currently not quite finished though. Hopefully that will happen this summer. There's a large multipurpose room, bedroom, and bathroom. We need to pull the paneling off one wall and drywall it (there's only one small wall left to do) and replace the flooring (which is somewhat non-existent at the moment).
I'm definitely going to look at the closet in the bedroom down there to see if I could use it for things I don't wear as often. That's a really good idea!
I wish that was mine, but sadly it's just a picture I found on the internet. I do love that look though. I'm putting something like that in our mud room with bead board instead of board and batten.
You might want to look into putting a cedar closet in the basement. I'm not sure how labor intensive that is, but we have one in ours and it's great because it keeps critters away.
Can you go vertical? One thing I LOVE for my shoes is getting those clear storage boxes (for like $1 at a Dollar General or something) with the snap-on lids and using those for shoes. It takes up space vertically, but not a lot horizontally. It's like a filing system for shoes!
Also, Space Bags. Get one or two for your out-of-season clothes and then you can store it anywhere!
