A couple teachers at a local school (not our district) are in trouble for carrying a 7 yr old autistic boy in from recess by the hands and feet, and then dragging him on the floor down a hallway into the office. I watched the video last night, and was appalled.
My dad leaves for the airport today! It's not sad though because we are going to Ireland next week! I'm completely dreading the flight now though. William is a disaster at the moment behavior wise and I think 6+ hours trapped on the plane alone with them both is going to send me over the edge
The flight leaves at 915pm but I just know neither of them will sleep as they have both managed to stay awake for entire red eyes in the past.
We have crisis teams at our school and they have to remove students (who are uncontrollable) any means they can without endangering themselves or the student.
I hope they can figure out what happened and the boy is ok.
His name is Alexander and he's doing well They think he'll be in special care for a few days but seems to be doing a lot better than his brother did when he was born.

No - I don't have any details on it. I have no idea what was happening outside that they brought him in. He wasn't struggling or fighting them in the video though, so he didn't look uncontrollable.
The mom posted the video because she's furious and trying to persue legal action. One of my fb friends knows her and shared it, so it popped up on my newsfeed.
MH is taking W up to a friends cabin for the weekend and leaving today. I think W is going to have a blast up there! However, he was sooooo excited this morning that I fear he is going to be a bear at daycare today.
R and I will have a weekend at home. But my sister and nieces are in town for the weekend so I think we'll be hanging out with them a lot. I offered for my nieces to come stay overnight one night to 'help' with R.
This is random but...does anyone's 5 year old wipe their own butt yet? Successfully? We've been trying but it's like they don't have the dexterity? or something. Curious if there are any tips or tricks. Gross, I know.
breezy8407 - NOPE!! No success yet. He will have a 1:1 aide in K per his IEP, so she will check him if he poops at school. I feel like this is a much harder skill to teach than it should be!
I'll send some sleep magical thoughts your way for next week laurack.
The boys and I are headed up to a friend's vacation home today. H is going us tomorrow. I'm bummed that he isn't coming today to do the driving. I like to catch up on things here while sitting in the passenger seat. LOL.

Andrew does. I would love to say that I had tips and tricks to make it easier, but he just kind of figured it out on his own. We told him to use three squares at a time. It seems to be his magic number - any less and he'd get poop on his hands. Any more and it was just a waste. He wipes, checks, and uses new toilet paper if he needs to wipe again.
Now if I could get him to keep his clothes on while he pooped, that would be great. He likes to take his underwear and pants off. Shoes and socks, too. It makes it super fun while out in public.

Ari is no where near being able to wipe. Infact, he gags when I try and make him. I have no idea what he will do in 3 weeks.

I know! I doubt there is anyone that goes with each kid to the bathroom each time. I will ask their teachers because I am sure not every kid can do it yet.

His teacher said that he will figure it out after he gets poop on his undies a few times

A cannot wipe well and freaks out if there is any poop on her undies, ugh. I hope it doesn't make her start holding it because we just got over that issue maybe 6 months ago.

imimahoney oh that makes me sad. They kind of did that in preschool - we had lots of dirty undies and I always asked if someone helped. Usually DS said no. I don't want it to be a health issue. Maybe I am blowing it out of proportion.
@lindy that's a real concern, too! I hope it doesn't come to that.
Just spent awhile flipping H's car seats forward. I did not expect to have a long torsoed giant when buying his seats so he outgrew the RF height on one of them already and it was easier to just switch both. I'm always amazed how dirty then are when I clean them.
I think I baby my children too much. I haven't even had Violet attempt to wipe herself because I always just do it. Meep.
I didn't start until June when I realized kindergarten wasn't far away! I still do it after her though because she's awful at it.
I know that the chances of V going at school are so so so slim because she refuses to even pee at school (which is another issue!!). She's also going to a special needs school so I feel like people will help more? But I don't know!! I'm afraid to ask.

If I'm honest, since he sucks at it, I rarely make him do it. Especially since I know his aide will do it. #momfail. I feel like his arms don't reach that far back!
I mean -of course he chose the Mariner Valley on Mars muppetinma. Who doesn't think of that when asked about the color orange?? That kid - he's going places!!
