I'm starting to stress out about the eclipse. I was paying zero attention to it until this week, when I realized (duh) that it's viewable to some degree across the whole country. We will be on vacation with the kids. I do not have eclipse glasses and have heard that they are super hard to get now? I could try to make a pinhole viewer thingy, but we would still have to e outside. Basically, I don't want the kids to miss out on seeing this, but I definitely don't want them blinded. They absolutely can't be trusted to not look at it (2, 4, 6 and 8). So...do we hide inside and ignore it? Try to get glasses? What? What are you doing?
I think we are supposed to be 80 to 85% coverage here.
I have little interest in this personally, but I don't want them to miss out on a huge phenomenon if the rest of the country has to view the partly-covered sun.
DD will be watching at school. Glasses are being provided for everyone. The lower grades may watch online...not the same but better than nothing. I'm sure it would be very difficult to keep the glasses on an entire class.
Saw on the app (latest), OP- I'm not a mom yet, but my sister recently expressed similar concerns. SO like abs's suggestion: she decided she's going to view online with her younger two. Meanwhile her H will view outside with the older two (10 & 8), who they trust not to look directly at the sun (after an instructional lesson/ she homeschools). She sent this link in the family discussion about it (our mom & dad asking specifics re: their plans). www.wired.com/story/view-the-eclipse-with-this-simple-homemade-gadget/amp
