I've used both and I prefer Shape Tape. While BBUE does give me more coverage in one layer than Shape Tape, ST doesn't cake if I add a smidge more to the really dark parts. I have a hard time with BBUE in the summer between the heat/humidity. This isn't an issue with ST. I also don't have to mix ST to get a color match, unlike BBUE.
I like MAC concealers, specifically the ones in a pot. One pot will last you a long time.
I don't have to use a setting powder and it doesn't crease halfway through the day. Gives really great coverage too! I have very dry under eyes and look haggard if I use powder under them. I was a total skeptic too, but it's working out for me.

Shape Tape for life over here. I didn't understand the hype until I used it. It's so creamy, gives awesome coverage but isn't thick or heavy feeling. I have different colors and use the lighter shade to highlight and conceal my under eyes and one that matches my skin tone for covering blemishes and redness.
If you haven't bought yet, maybe consider the Nars soft matte concealer. I'm really digging it lately.
If you do get Shape tape, just be warned that the wand is HUGE. So I dab the wand on my hand and then use my finger to pick up small amounts of the concealer, adding more as I need it.
I used BBU for a year. Compared to shape tape, the bbu is much more greasy and hard to blend. The color of bbu didn't work as well as shape tape.
The only negative of shape tape for me is the packaging. It is like a lip gloss package - redip the applicator every use. The BBU was in a squeeze tube, which is much more sanitary.
I like both and use them for different things. I use shape tape under my eyes and BBUE for blemishes. If I ever run out of shape tape I will be content with just BBUE. Part of it may be that I can't seem to get a good color match in the ST and BBUE colors seem to be more forgiving.
I'm the odd one out; I've used both and vastly prefer BBUE.
Shape tape did end up a little cakey on my dry skin.
Me too I guess. In terms of coverage shape tape was amazing. However, now matter how much eye cream I used it dried the shit out of my undereye area. So cakey, so dry, so many creases. I literally looked 100 years old! It was awful but my experience is clearly an outlier.

I'm continually amazed this hasn't happened to me. I can't use powder at all in that area, or I look like the crypt keeper. I will say that I tend to go easy with the ST and just barely put enough on to cover my dark circles and blend out. How did you blend it out?

I tried my fingers and a beauty blender. I tried a lot and a little. Perhaps part of my problem is that I have serious dark circles that span my entire undereye so its hard to get away with so little product.

I'm the same. I tried so hard to love shape tape because after shipping and duty, this stuff cost me $60. I've tried everything under the sun to get it to look good, but it just doesn't work for me. Someone recommended Physician's Formula insta ready concealer and holyyyy shit this stuff is amazing.
