DS' Kinder teacher has taught for over a decade but is a first time mom. She started her DD in day care for the first time this week. It's hard for her - you guys know! I can't imagine having 20 enthusiastic five year olds and an infant at home.
Ideas?
Her DD's name is the same as my middle's name, and middle is the only girl she has known with that name. So I have considered a bottle of wine with the name in the label - I know I have seen one but can't remember where/when. But IDK about wine at school (camouflaged in a bag should be fine?).
I usually do a Target GC or Starbucks/ Dunkin Doughnuts GC for coffee/ fun drinks. Doe she drink coffee? Caffeine is pretty much essential when returning to work, so mug and coffee?
Unless it's a really nice travel mug, I'd say skip the mug. (Speaking as a wife of a teacher, who donates a box of mugs yearly because we get so many as gifts)
I already told her I will bring her coffee from Starbucks - because it's not like she can run up there to grab it - but I can! Her favorites are in the teacher pref book at the school so I will just deliver that randomly or on request.
I remember how intensely painful it was to leave them and go to work - I wish it was easier to gift the knowledge that her daughter will thrive while she is away teaching and in a few years, it truly won't matter. But because that's a life experience thing, it's hard to purchase!
I'm also dying that I got rid of personalized stuff with DD's name on it now! I held onto baby stuff for seriously YEARS and now it would be perfect to share.
2chatter, I love my digital picture frame and they're pretty affordable. Everyone has 29387429874892 pics of their new kid they want to see but no one wants that many frames.

twinmomma, we're right there with you and getting rid of mugs. Travel mugs are now the popular mug to gift to teachers in our area, so I'm getting rid of those now too.
