QOTW: If you are in the US, do you have any special plans for the eclipse on Monday? If you are outside of the US have you ever seen a solar eclipse before (partial or full)?
I have only about a hundred pages left in Salem's Lot by Stephen King. I should finish that tonight. I'm not sure what I'll read next, but I'll continue my re-read of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
QOTW: I live pretty close to the line of the eclipse so if I can't find any of the glasses I'll just sit outside and watch it get dark. I'll probably sneaky glance at the sun a few times too.
I'm reading Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. Its really good especially in light of what is happening in politics right now.
I'm hoping to snag some glasses from someone in my neighborhood and I'll head outside around eclipse time to see. We aren't in the path of totality so I'm not sure how dark it will get etc.
I've been kind of horrifically sick and wrapped up in myself, so my updates span this week and last week.
A Court of Thorns and Roses - I'm not getting the love/fascination here, but I'm going to at least read he second book based on ufcasey's reviews. Tamlin and Feyre are kind of awful characters and it annoys me how the writing could flip from decent to sloppy at the drop of a hat.
Caraval - I was really excited about this book going it, but it was kind of a big disappointment. I'll save the rest of my thoughts for the board discussion.
Career of Evil (Cormoran Strike #3) - currently reading (about 20% in) - I'm really enjoying getting more backstory on Cormoran and Robin.
QOTW: We're going to my MIL's house, who is about 99% eclipsed, but I'm insisting we drive the extra the extra 20 miles to get to full totality, because if we are driving 6 hours to her house already, it seems stupid to not drive the extra 30 minutes and get the full experience. My H is being a giant pain in the ass and griping about it though. My only worry about this trip is that my sickness is GI related (not contagious), and one of my SIL and two of her kids are coming too, so it will be four adults and two teen boys and only one bathroom for the weekend.

I'm almost finished with Lord of Shadows and then I can go back to The Obelisk Gate and hopefully finish that before I have to check it out yet again. Oh, and my lines for Act IV Scene I of Much Ado which I do NOT know yet!
We're only 90% here but I've got a pair of the glasses (though I'm not so sure how much I trust them). I've threatened to climb up on one of our rail cars or locomotives to watch it but it'll depend on how many patrons are here because I don't want to encourage people to emulate my rulebreaking.
I have been reading The Royal We. I know it is often recommended, but I don't love it. I keep reading because I am waiting for a hold to come in for my IRL book club choice, Ahab's Wife, which I want to get started on right away.
QOTW: We will be in partial eclipse. No glasses or anything, I (sadly) admit to not even knowing what time I should be expecting it to occur.
I'm reading The Leavers by Lisa Ko and rushing through a bunch of middle grade/YA books for school. Right now I'm on Every Day by David Levithan, which is really good. (It was summer reading for the kids, but I didn't get the job until the last minute.)
Qotw: My school and my DD's school have glasses to watch and have been doing lessons and preparing the kids. DH's work bought them glasses too. We're in the upper 80% coverage.
I finished Blood in the Water: The Attica Prison Uprising of 1971 and its Legacy by Heather Ann Thompson. It was really good, I didn't know much at all before reading this book, and it really gave me a lot to think about. I started Caraval and am about 2/3 through. I don't know how I feel yet, ha.
QOTW: We are having an eclipse party at work. We are supposed to get about 95%. We are having moon pies, cosmic brownies, star crunch, starburst, sun chips, sunkist and sunny d.

I just finished listening to The Alice Network earlier today and I really liked that. The Hate U Give became available to me from Overdrive so I'm really excited to start that next.
I'm also still reading Lincoln in the Bardo and Lord of Shadows.
QORW - I'm in MA so I don't think it's super great visibility but I'll go outside and check out how dark it gets.
Reading The Paris Key and I got John Adams audio book back from the library, so I'm back to listening to that.
I will probably just go outside for awhile in the eclipse, it will be like 90-some percent here. The schools are keeping the kids inside, and I just talked to DS1 about watching the live feed or pulling him out, he sounds like he'd rather watch it with his friends.

I'm slogging through She, Lover of Death. And I have a funny story about that. This is the version I have: link. I was reading it at the cafe today at brunch. A family with youngish children sat at the table next to me and when the boy asked his mother to read the title of my book, the mother did so, but added that people should not be reading such "suggestive" and "inappropriate" books on a weekend morning when "children may be around to be influenced!" Yes, it was spiteful and bitchy, but I left the book in a prominent position on my table as long as the family as there.
QOTW: I'm in Australia so I won't see the eclipse except on news reports. But I am already tired of the hype on Social Media. It's as though it's the FIRST! ECLIPSE! EVER! When I was younger there was an eclipse, I don't remember if it was a full or only a partial, but we spent the whole day at school learning about eclipses and making our own pinhole cameras. I still wonder why schools are pushing the eclipse glasses rather than taking the science lesson opportunity being handed to them to teach not only about the eclipse, but also about pinhole cameras and projections and other things. That's definitely the lesson I remember.
I finished A Summer Affair by Elin Hildebrand this week. It was just okay.
QOTW: Yes, we've got big plans for the eclipse. My sister's town is in the path of totality and we're having a massive party on Monday. I got down here yesterday to help prep.
dorothyinAus , the schools here are doing both glasses and pinhole/projection projects. The glasses are more about safety than the viewing experience, I think. Also, how do you encounter all these weirdos? This mom, the bookstore clerk you mentioned a while back ... I never knew people were so judgy about mysteries! 😆
Re-reading Game of Thrones (the actual book 1) because I'm trying to remember some of the backstory details for all of the tv show speculation. Also it is a fun universe to lose myself in.
Technically also still reading Climate of Hope but not making much progress because GOT is so much more fun.
Listening to Stephen King's Christine, which is a really well done audiobook.
QOTW: we are driving into the path of totality. My dad still vividly remembers a total solar eclipse he saw in 1960-something (I can't remember the year) and I think I can't miss the chance. I have seen partial eclipses before and they're really cool, but I want to see the stars come out in the middle of the day.

I have been having a TERRIBLE reading week! I do not know what is going on, every book I pick up, i Just CANNOT get into it. I need something that really is going to keep my interest, and I am not sure what that would be!
This week I read "The Almost Sisters" which was pretty good! I gave it 4/5 stars
I have picked up and put DOWN the following: The Travels of an Independent Woman Without Reservationsby Alice Steinbch
He Said/She Said (funny it revolves around a solar eclipse, fitting!)
QOTD:
I am going to view the eclipse with my parents at a local park that is hosting. We are not in an ideal viewing location, but its just something to do

I finished American Lion. I am not an Andrew Jackson fan. My family has been here since pre-revolutionary times and I am really curious what they thought of him. I started He Said/She Said, it's just ok. On audio I'm listening to Beast. It is kinda meh too.
QOTW: no big plans. As a nurse, I am super happy I am off! I have no desire to be at the hospital when all the craziness starts (because you know it's coming) and I feel bad for all of the optho docs on call who will be trying not to say "I told you so" when everyone comes in with their burned retinas.
Yeah, that's not the love story we're into.
Im working in The Mists of Avalon and Burn for Me. My kid was rather shocked when he saw the cover of Burn for Me, but it's pretty tame so far.
QOTD: we are going to join the hundred thousand assholes on the road tomorrow and drive three hours (plus traffic) to the totality.

I'm now on week three of 'try to finish any book series I have already started".
Read last week: Crooked Kingdom (#2 in series) by Leigh Bardugo - YA/Fantasy; 4 stars; this one had lots of twists that I enjoyed Career of Evil (#3 in series) by JK Rowling/Robert Galbraith - mystery/thriller; 4.5 stars; definitely the best book of the series so far! but with that ending, when does the next one come out?!?
Currently reading: Now I Rise (#2 in series) by Kiersten White - YA/Historical Fiction; I loved the first book and so far I am really liking this second one Just Like Magic (#7 in series) by Gayla Drummond - PNR; just started
QOTW: A local walk-in emergency clinic type place gave away free solar eclipse viewing glasses, which was nice. So we're planning on taking our son out of school (it's an excused absence for the eclipse) and we're going to go outside and watch it from home if the sky is clear enough
