Not usually but when I'm home alone and the dog starts randomly barking it always makes me think someone is breaking in to rob/rape me. Freaks me right out.
Yes, extremely. I watch way too much Dateline and we don't have cable, so I've been working my way through all of the crime documentary shows on Netflix. I need to stop watching that shit.
My Mom always thought there was someone just waiting to rob/rape/kill her
My parents seriously used to rattle off statistics on rape and murder, and I had no idea how fucking crazy they were until I was in high school. Some gems were:
50% of people that go to carnivals get raped, and... If you in the window seat of a plane, the person next to you could molest and rape you and no one would be able to hear your screams (wtf?)
OMG. the carnival thing reminded me of my mil telling me that my h was abducted by aliens at the fair and that aliens wait until there are a bunch of people in a big place and pick the ones who are drunk or high. Something to do with your soul not being 100% when you are in an altered state. Oh, my mil. This is just one of her many gems that I have heard her spout over the years.

I don't consider myself overly paranoid. But the Petit murders make me extra-cautious that I'm absolutely sure I never get followed home from the store. Or followed at all. I start making unnecessary turns if a car sticks with me for very long.
When my brother was three a lady tried to walk out of the aquarium holding my brother's hand. My dad found her and asked her what she was doing while grabbing my brother and she ran off. Shit happens yo. It happened in two minutes bc my dad let my brother let up to the glass to look closer at the jellyfish and my dad didn't want to stand in front of other kids and block their view.
My mom would talk about things like how easy it is for someone to hide under your car, and slice your achilles tendon while you unlocked your car. Then they could drag you away while you were disabled. Same thing with rest stop restrooms. =/

Creepy, but TRUE.
Lol! Yes I've heard this before.
Driving at night I freak myself out that someone is in my backseat. Sometimes I refuse to look in the rear view mirror. Which is dangerous!
