I teach grade 5, and our district doesn't have any directives regarding spelling instruction. I used to teach it, but haven't in a few years (I do a vocabulary program instead that focuses on the meaning of the words). I'm wondering what the general consensus is around this.

We use the Words Their Way developmental spelling. With a side of Word Journeys. Each teacher does word study and spelling tests in developmental groups. Most teachers have 3 spelling lists per week.

We use Words their Way for K-3. I love it (I teach 3rd). I give the inventory and you use it to pinpoint the exact skill to start with for each student.

Like UMaineTeach said, we mostly have 3 lists per week but I had 4 for a while last year. We do trade students among the other classes if we need to fit students into the right group without needing 6 groups.
