So I have three girls, they are all winter babies and so I've been lucky to pass all their clothes along down the line. I've managed to keep it to a bin or two (4t+ just get too big and I've needed two bins). I'm getting the bug to start purging these a bit and really par them down to basics.
How many of each type of clothing do you happy for? Dresses, plain ts both pin. And short, pants, leggings, sweaters, etc. My kids all have too much clothing. I do too much laundry. Frankly they have too much to choose from. How do you keep it in check?

My daughter almost exclusively wears dresses and leggings (or shorts), so we have the most of those. We just did a major clean out of the closet, and got rid of anything that she truly does not wear, and moved all tutu style skirts to the dress up bin ("Those are sooooo not second grade...but I still kinda like them.") These numbers are my aim, not my reality, but we're pretty close.
10 dresses, mostly tank or cap sleeve style from HM - our climate is mild, and she wears them jumper style when it's cold or with a sweater or hoodie. 10-12 leggings, including 3 that are closer to jeggings that she can wear with just a shirt - We tried to be really thoughtful this year with choosing leggings that can be worn with multiple dresses. I mean, it's still 7-year-old matching, but everything more or less goes. 6-8 tees, including long sleeve - she really doesn't wear t-shirts very often, but I try to make sure what she has matches her jeggings and/or can be worn under a dress. 2 hoodies, in solid colors that match everything - pink and purple for us. 1 soccer practice outfit; 1 soccer game outfit. 1 pair of boots, 1 pair of sandals, 1 pair of athletic shoes, 1 pair of every day shoes for non-sandal weather, 1 pair of fancy shoes.
That's really it. She had a couple of bulky sweaters last year that came out in winter, but she hardly wore them, so I doubt we will pull them out or replace them this year.
I also have three girls, all winter babies, plus one boy. DD1 tends to have just enough to get by, and then by DD3 we have too much. She usually ends up with a couple new things and the sizes don't always line up exactly.
I'm not really sure what I aim for. I would say generally 1-2 pairs jeans several (8???) pairs leggings 3? casual dresses to wear with leggings couple skirts she can wear with dresses. I got a couple ruffle tiered skirts (a denim and a navy blue) at Hanna Andersson a couple years ago and she can still wear them and will pass them down. several long-sleeved shirts 2 hoodies 1 pair athletic shoes, dress sandals, "every day" sandals, flip flops for summer. For winter, athletic shoes (wears most days to school and all gym days), usually a pair or two of boots to wear with leggings, maybe another pair of fun shoes, dress shoes that can be worn for Christmas (usually black). Plus holiday dresses, winter outerwear, outdoor winter boots, etc.

Oh, and DS is less complicated (boys), but I just had to do a bunch of shopping for him because he finally outgrew his 2T stuff.
10-12 pairs of pants, 5-7 pairs of shorts - all elastic waist, all "cozy", all some variation of blue or gray (or plaid, for the shorts) 7-10 tees; 7-10 long sleeve tees 3 button up shirts - not usually a first choice, but sometimes he likes to be fancy, and it's always good to have a few for when a Batman tee is inappropriate. 2 hoodies 1 pair of crocs, 1 pair of rubber boots, 1 pair of sneakers, 1 pair of "fancy" shoes.
Following!! I have three girls too. It's getting to be too much. I feel like don't even buy that much either but somehow they have too much to choose from. I'd rather do less laundry more often.
